"From The Crack House To The White House" by Denise Stokes, may be an autobiography, yet it reads like a novel. As she describes her life and its downward spiral that begins with her victimization, we begin to see pasterns that give us the readers a sense of her anguish and despair as never ending. Just as we begin to believe its going to keep getting worse, as addiction and HIV take their toll, a miracle happens. The dramatic changes shows us a "new" woman, eager reach for and achieve goals and explore talents and gifts. Its great reading for teens and those who may find daunting challenges facing them in life with inspiration and hope that anything is possible if we earnestly try, believe and not give up. The book is fast paced and compels the reader to keep reading as the chapters pass. Please note this book is adult in context and has some graphic descriptions that may not be appropriate for preteens and younger that have adult reading skills.

From the Crack House to the White House: Turning Obstacles Into OpportunitiesI could not put the book down from the moment I picked it up. I cried, I laughed, and I shared the joys with Denise as she shared her journey with me. I wish everyone would read this book and share it with anyone who has HIV/AIDS or needs to be in recovery or is in recovery. This is a must read for family members, the community, educators, and so many people. This book just means so much to me and I just want everyone that has anyone with any of the issues that Denise shared to give this book, share this book with them. I am passing my book on, and encouraging it to be passed on and on. I am buying other copies and passing it on. This book is a must read. Thank you Denise for sharing your life with me and with our society. Stephanie M.

This book is just simply astounding! I couldn't put the book down because it was as if I was reading my own biography. Denise's courage to be transparent is what makes her a true champion. Anyone who reads this masterpiece will put it down feeling empowered, encouraged, and inspired. The obstacles that she overcame, puts a question to all who are living beneath their potential...."What's your excuse?" Her story takes every excuse away that anyone could try to use as a reason to allow their circumstances dictate their future. Thank you Denise for your raw honesty, your strength, and your journey. Your a "Trail Blazer," and I'm so glad that our paths have crossed. Keep writing! The world needs to hear more of this these types of triumphs.

Denise Stokes is an inspiration to all who meet her. I interviewed her a number of years ago while writing my own book, "Many Blessings: A Tapestry of Accomplished African American Women." She was graceful, articulate and willing to reveal her own story of triumph over tragedy and marginalization. What a woman! What a story! Read this book and you will be inspired by her process and progress, overcoming the challenges of trauma to become a beacon of hope for women, people suffering with addiction, and those infected with HIV. Nicely done, Denise! From the Crack House to the White House: Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities

This book is a must read, for anyone who has suffered abuse this book will give you courage to have your own voice. Miss Stokes is probably one of the most courageous individuals I have ever met. Her book is brutally honest about the aweful, just plain horrific things she suffered and endured. The book takes you in and absolutely knocks you off your feet, there were many times that I caught my mouth just gapping open. No one should ever have to suffer like this and it absolutely pisses me off that women are being treated this way, especially young girls. While reading the book you find yourself on an emotional rollercoaster, I mean I cried for her, I wanted to fight for her, I was just blown away by the end of this book. I tell you what in the time it took me to write this review some child is being raped and or abused and it should not be. Mankind is so cruel. I do not understand how dark do you have to be to inflict this kind of pain on anyone. Also not being loved and accepted was bad enough for this young lady but to be raped at 13 years old and infected with aids just makes you wanna go through the book to whomever hurt her like this. Please tell all of your friends about this book it is a MUST read and it also tells of God's grace and how anyone's life can change. Hope is a mainstay!!!!!

This book is one of the most beautifully written, intricately detailed, intensely emotional and supremely inspiring autobiographies I have ever read! Denise Stokes is a literary artist who entertained and gripped me through every page as she shared her life in an honest way. As she led me through the intimate aspects of her life while trapped in darkness and death, to her emergence into a healthy, valiant and benevolent spirit, I was truly awed.
This is a fantastic, timeless tale of her bravery and love! From her, I received that it was not in lieu of the tragedies that her triumph came, but that it was because of every violation, danger, pain, and agony that her new life and dreams—the mission to accomplish God’s will—was born. She broke free to encourage and elevate millions.

If there was ever a ‘Life Education’ course taught in schools today, Denise Stokes’ book should be the premier choice for study—it is exceptional!

Buy it and be blessed!
