4.0 out of 5 stars Metalcore's Hope October 23, 2013
By chris
Format:Audio CD
From Death to Destiny is a turning point in the career of Asking Alexandria. Both releases before this were focused on partying and drug addiction whereas this release is focused on the recovery process and the emotional changes during it. The band members had repeatedly said prior to this release that they wanted to bring some of their influences into From Death to Destiny which is why it has such a strong nu-metal/hard rock sound to it. The fans of Stand Up and Scream and Reckless and Relentless might have a hard time adjusting to the new sound but I however welcomed it.
Reckless and Relentless will most likely always be my favorite Asking Alexandria album due to the sheer heaviness and vocals on that release. From Death to Destiny is an excellent follow up to what is in my opinion one of the best metalcore albums ever made.
Breakdowns have been replaced by heavy riffs instead. Danny's vocals sound different to him damaging them earlier in the year. At some points he sings off key which he acknowledges in an interview but this adds to the natural feel of the album. There are so electronic effects but not so much as to distract the listener from the guitars and bass. The lyrics on this album are by far the best of any Asking Alexandria release. On some tracks such as Believe and Run Free they are uplifting whereas on tracks such as Don't Pray For Me, Killing You and on the deluxe edition Dead, there is the usual heavy Asking Alexandria lyrics that the fans are accustomed to.
From Death to Destiny will have those that oppose the band taking such a drastic change in their sound. However, if you can take the time to appreciate the band's approach to maturing themselves, then you will find that this is definitely worth the time to listen to.
Favorite Songs: Don't Pray for Me, The Road, Killing You, Dead, The Death of Me, Moving On

2.0 out of 5 stars Kings of the Genre (but this album severely lacks) August 6, 2013
By )(aqri
Format:Audio CD
From Death To Destiny reminds me of other metalcore bands from which AA used to stand out like kings of their genre. Reckless and Relentless will remain as one of my all time favorite albums from almost 30 years of listening to a wide variety of metal. Stand Up and Scream was superb as well. This album, however, seems to lack their trade mark industrial sound. It seems they changed their song formula which to me sounds more (forgive me) generic. The vocals and the guitar sound quite different from their previous work that a lot of us came to like them for specifically. I like it when bands progress or mature but if this is 'maturing' then I prefer the immature band from 2009-11. This new formula to their songs was a HUGE misstep in my opinion. I miss the epic endings to songs like A Candlelit Dinner With Inamorta, Final Episode or I Was Once, Perhaps, Maybe a Cowboy King. I gotta say though, I half expected this from the singles they released. When I compare their singles from SUAS or RR like The Prophecy or To The Stage or Closure to the new singles Run Free, The Death of Me and Killing You I felt this coming. The kings are not gone though. They've still got another epic album in them, I know it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't stop listening! November 10, 2013
By AAFan
Format:Audio CD
Every song on "From death to destiny" is awesome. I really can't stop listening to this album. Asking Alexandria has another hit album and i support their change more like a evolution if you ask me but hey if you're a fan of Asking Alexandria you will not be disappointed i know i wasn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite a Change, But in Which Direction? August 16, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I've been a fan of Asking Alexandria for years now, and I bought this album the morning it came out. Every day since then, I've listened to it exclusively and I absolutely love it. Whether or not YOU will love it could be a different story. The screams are less frequent and Danny's clean vocals sound a bit different than they used to, which depending on who you are could be a turn off. The reason that the album works so well for me is that the band has matured the same way that I have, shifting to a more melodic and less chaotic style. Whatever your preference, at least give it a shot. There's sure to be something you like.

Are you kidding me? This is not the same Asking Alexandria that everyone fell in love with and became a fan of. This is not the same Asking Alexandria that got big in the first place. This is a very lackluster album. Very poor instrumentals and singing as well. Compared to their previous albums this sounds like they didn't even try or tried too hard to be something else that they are not. If you are a fan of THE Asking Alexandria then this album should upset you tremendously! I am very upset and most of all shocked! Out of all the bands out there. I didn't expect Asking Alexandria to be this disloyal and let the fan base down like this.

1.0 out of 5 stars I can sum it up in one word... September 3, 2013
By DJ
Format:Audio CD
But amazon says I need at least 20 words? Well there are a couple decent songs, but overall I sum this album up with one word and that word is "disappointment".

3.0 out of 5 stars They were better when they partied hard August 7, 2013
By Sunjbob
Format:Audio CD
Im certain AA fans had huge expectations for this album. Their music kicked you in the teeth from start to finish with a raw and relentless onslaught of pummeling drums, thrashing guitars, and piercing screams. With D2D they shift gears more from metal to rock. This will likely appeal to a broader fan base but will disappoint many hardcore fans. THis album does have some gems though; mainly towards the first half of the album. But the rest feels slow and the melodies don't hook like their previous works. Gone is the relentless pace, brutal breakdowns, and jagged rhythms. Replaced with a simpler, structured approach. Some of the songs feel reminiscent of previous albums at first but then fall flat. Still, its a pretty good album. I pre-ordered but wish i would have previewed songs before buying. Escape the fate, Bullet For my valentine, and Our Last Night all changed their sound with new releases this year. They are good albums to check out. Ill look forward to the new Avenged sevenfold.

4.0 out of 5 stars The step that Metalcore should take.
I hate to say it but metalcore nowadays just sounds very generic and uninspiring! Asking Alexandria seems to notice that and also they've noticed that they do have a lot more... Read more
