5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! May 10, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
We've been looking for a way to watch this since we read about it in People magazine. It airs on the El Rey network which isn't available in our area. THRILLED to find it on amazon. We bought the pilot episode and we were HOOKED. Hubby had seen the movies--I had not. It pleases BOTH of us. The Gecko brothers are both believable as professional thieves, and Richie (played by Zane Holtz) is simply brilliant as a troubled, vision-seeing, semi-sociopath. Every character is believable (with the exception of Jake Busey--who always seems to play a caricature). We binged all the available episodes in 3 days and would highly recommend it for fans of "thinking-man's-horror." (no mindless slashing) The stylized format of flashbacks is done seamlessly and provides ongoing surprises and fleshes out the characters. Try it--you'll like it!

I had seen the original movies, so I had very "limited expectations" of this series.
I was very surprised to see that the tv series was substantially better than any of the movies.

The scripts are much more well written. Giving the characters some "back story" helps to make more sense of the rather simplistic basic plot. The tv series also adds a new twist - these are not "Vampires" - at least in the classic sense. Rather, they are made out to be "ancient Mexican Snake Gods". This makes an interesting, and engaging, plot point.

The special effects are amazing, far better than you would expect for a limited run tv series.

But, please note - There is a lot of graphic violence. There are also gallons upon gallons of blood spilled . This is a program for adult audiences only. It is extremely not suitable for anyone under 16 or so to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly Good Show! September 27, 2014
By Justin
I have loved the first film for years, and when I heard it was going to be made into a show I though, hmmmm maybe I will check it out. Of course the show came and went as it was made for a new network called El Rey that I never even heard of and don't even think I get....? I figured being that it was made for a cable channel that I had never heard of that it was probably a show produced with a 2 dollar budget with crappy acting and a terrible script.

Cut to its release on DVD, and seeing it for 20 bucks in the store one day I thought, what the hell. Might as well get it since I was in a vampire mood from watching The Strain anyway.

To say I was shocked on how much I enjoyed this first season would be an understatement. The story and acting is excellent. The gore effects are top notch. For those that have seen the movie the first half of the season really doesn't give you much new material since it follows much of the same path as the film, but you get much more backstory, and fleshed out character development so it still keeps you coming back for more.

I still have no idea where to find this "El Rey" network or what the hell else it has to offer, but I am glad to hear it was renewed for a 2nd season because I cant wait to see where they go next with the story.

If you doubted in this series like I did, give it a chance because you might be surprised.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow. September 8, 2014
Far exceeds expectations. Half western crime drama, half paranormal horror, 100% badass fun. Great cast, smooth story progression, and plenty of things going on to keep it interesting. Bring on Season 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars A remake/reboot that works. June 10, 2014

In a time where vampires and zombies are in "things" right now on cable TV Rodriguez is genius for reintroducing this concept now. From Dusk till Dawn is fresh take on the vampire genre with some added crime-drama action and campy humor to boot. Fans of the original movie, Rodriguez's films ,Supernatural , Hellboy, and the like should give this series a shot.

After having a chance to re-watch the original 1996 movie and the series I can honestly say I love both. The concept of vampires and Mesoamerican folklore has not been entirely or successfully explored. The idea of the vampires being snake-like in origin is a nice touch. Yet, that`s not what makes the movie or the series such classics. Its the characters and the story itself.

The series is not a carbon copy of the movie, which for this series to work is a good thing. Changes have been made to further expand the world and the characters of From Dusk till Dawn.

Not to mention to make some characters a bit more likeable and sympathetic. The acting is good, the special effects are good, and the writing itself is good. However, in saying that the show does suffer from a few plot holes. Only having 10 episodes in its 1st season , I would have expected the writing to be bit tighter in some areas and less dragging in others. Yet considering the scope of what this series could become and how enjoyably fresh it actually is I can bypass some of my nitpicking.

Be warned that Season One is not really a stand alone season. Its basically an introduction season. Luckily there will be second season coming out next year which will run 13-14 episodes vs. season`s one 10 episode run.
