I bought one of these to make sushi and wrap a thin piece of nori (seaweed) around it, and it works great, but it is a very BIG piece of rectangular rice. It is at least 2 mouthfuls. It would be nice to have it almost have the heighth. each individual rice rectangle measures just over 1/2 inch high by 2 inches long. Too much for what I wanted. After compressing in the mold, I tried to cut the rice rectangle in half but it wouldn't stick together that thin. So something a little smaller would be nice. But the mold itself works VERY well.

My first sushi was from a high end restaurant that had a roll with spicy crab on the inside and salmon and tuna on the outside using soy paper. so no rice.

i haven't been able to find soy paper reasonably priced so i bought this to make something close.

i made my spicy crab and spooned it into the mold up to the top. i then put the cover on it and pushed down like it said.

when i turned it over i have 5 nice size crab molds. then i just top with salmon or tuna.

i haven't tried with rice but i would think it would work just as nice. maybe the spicy crab is a little slipperier so it came out without using the tabs to push it out.

FYI one pound of spicy crab mix made 20 little sushi's.

Making nigiri type sushi by hand is a skill which comes from good knowledge and much repetition. If you make it only occasionally then a simple press or mold saves you time by assuring each piece comes out consistently--quick and easy. Simple graphic instructions on the package show you a few simple steps, and are accompanied by Japanese text. However, if you want to see how easy this product is to use, you can find videos online (YouTube) to show you how.

A nice product for making onigiri or nigiri sushi for your bento box!

Not what I thought it was...my fault b/c I just started to make Sushi and didn't realize this was the kind that is a mold for just making a rectangle of molded rice that you lay the salmon or shrimp across the top without seaweed. The mold is of little use...anyone can mold a clump of rice!

Making sushi with this is really fast and easy. You can make a lot in a short time but the portions are larger than I would like. To make smaller bite sizes, I just divide the portion in half and shape it with my hand so now I have 2 sizes for my guests.
