It is written in a manner easily understood.

There are certainly lots of folk who play with their horses, and there are certainly lots who try to "make" their horses do things.

This is a mail I received from a happy customer in South Africa:

I read the first review on Amazon and I am so shocked! I can't believe how ignorant this woman must be to have written such rubbish! I have found the book (along with the dvds) incredibly helpful and loads of fun for all my horses (I have 5 of my own horses and I have 19 students so there is a variety of horses we work with!) It is interesting to see how you progress to the really difficult games and how it all ties in with trust, respect and herd behaviour. It makes complete sense to me and I found it really easy to follow and understand, that I why I am so surprised!
I can't believe how blind and close-minded people can be!
Zaneta

This was a very interesting and fun book with a sound foundation in
herd behaviour. The games are varied and range from very easy to quite
challenging but if you work from the perspective of trust and respect then
anything is possible! I have 5 horses of my own and work with many others, they
all have totally different personalities but they all enjoy the games so much!
It was very nice to see the stepping stones of how to get from doing the average work to the exceptional work, and if you watch the dvds that compliment this book then you can see with your own eyes how successful the games are if you know how to apply them to your own horse's temperament! What I also liked was that everything is based on the horse's comfort and health (mentally and physically) and safety is always emphasized. It is about improving your horse's happiness and enjoyment and improving strength and flexibilty in a fun way as well as building a strong relationship! It is creative and light-hearted with useful information and tips to help you and your horse learn together."

Responding to the first person, who reviewed this book here I would like to raise the question: Should we as riders not be fit to get on our horses? If you feel unfit to pursue most of the games suggested I would ask you if you feel sufficiently fit to survive through 30 45 mins schooling session on your horses. You are probably right that not everybody feels up to riding into a horse trailer and than dismounting by grabbing hold of the roof of the trailer. This might be a very unusual exercise but this is what the book is about: Learning to be a trustworthy leader that your horse trusts you to perform the unusual. I don't believe the the author suggests anywhere in her book that you ought to play these games. What she does is providing you with simple exercises to start off with which will change your relationship with your horse. How far you will take this is entirely up to you. Jutta Wiemers background is vaulting and naturally sitting bare back on a horse is something with comes with this. I still believe that learning to ride bare back or via vaulting is the most successful way to learn riding with confidence (and falling off too which will happen sometime during any ones riding life).
I can only recommend this book and it also provides tons of fun if you happen to engage children in these games.

If you are serious about having fun this is just the book for you!
If you love your horses you can only have fun if they are happy. In Jutta's book she shows you how to make your horses happy and how to become a good and reliable leader by establishing a good relationship. Don't skip the first part of getting your body language right and the first yielding and leading games as this is where you're mainly working on yourself and your relationship to your horse. Jutta has also got some DVDs out very worth watching. They are called "Playing with Horses" to be purchased at Equestrian Vision.

I am certainly not a "pro" when it comes to horses (and I am a lot older than even my retired horse) but I found the book had some unique and extremely fun ideas for interacting with my horse. Not every idea is going to be applicable to every single person, but within those 100 games there is plenty to keep the average owner and their horse enthralled for a long time.

The general public and equestrians alike are fascinated with equine liberty acts, and perhaps many equestrians would consider liberty to be just a bunch of tricks while quietly wondering how such things are possible. There are certainly lots of folk who play with their horses, and there are certainly lots who try to "make" their horses do things. This book is about the former of course, and it demonstrates how an equestrian can enter a paradigm shift in thinking about their interactions with the horse: both in terms of what is possible and how liberty is a result of building relationships and trust.

I can recommend this book to any person who is interested in horses or have his own horse. For me, a passionate rider for 20 years, the games were a completely new experience. But the book is written so detailed and the tasks you have to do are described so clearly that you can learn every task like laying down your horse, making the horse follow you in full running or even the right stretching for your horse just by reading the book and practicing with your horse. And if you don't understand everything, you can aditional buy the DVDs so than you can become a really joyful playmate for your horse. You will see what difference it is when your horse does great things for you voluntarily instead of doing things just because of obedience.

Be your horse a REAL friend and buy this book so that you have a great time together!
