About the Actor

Peter Russell earned degrees in theoretical physics, psychology, and computer science at the University of Cambridge, England, later turning to psychology as he became fascinated by the subject of consciousness and the untapped potential of the human brain. He was one of the first people to introduce self-development seminars to business, and for twenty years consulted to major corporations on creativity, learning methods, stress management and sustainability. He now lectures around the world on consciousness and the future evolution of humanity. His other books include "The Brain Book", "The Awakening Earth", "The Creative Manager", "The Global Brain Awakens", "Waking Up In Time", "The Consciousness Revolution", and most recently "From Science to God".

Product Description

"How is it that something as unconscious as the matter of the brain ever gives rise to something as immaterial as an experience?" muses Peter Russell in From Science to God, a stimulating program exploring science, spirit, and the mystery of consciousness.

Russell, a prominent thinker in the fields of consciousness and science, asserts that science cannot explain the fact that humans are conscious. This capacity for inner experience he calls "the great mystery." According to Russell, who studied mathematics and theoretical physics before he delved into experimental psychology, science is locked into the view that consciousness itself is somehow created by the human brain. He believes that we need to question this basic assumption and consider instead that awareness is present to some degree in all living things.

The difference with humans is that we are aware that we aware. But what is it that is aware? In bustling downtown Los Angeles, Peter explores the perennial question of "Who am I?" He looks at how we seek fame and fashion, power and position, in our search for inner fulfillment. But in the final analysis, peace of mind is to be found within our selves rather than in what we have or do.

In the closing, he observes that Western science has proved very successful in explaining the world and advancing technology, but has not provided us with meaning or values. He calls for integration of scientific understanding with the wisdom of spiritual traditions. "The next great frontier is not outer space," Russell concludes, "it’s inner space."

5.0 out of 5 stars Who/What am I? "I AM"... Now! February 15, 2008
I'm a BIG fan of researching Quantum Physics, Spirituality and what it means to be "Conscious." I've been reading books from a wide range of perspectives and it just seems the more I learn, the more I want to keep learning.

Who/What am I?

I purchased the DVD of this 23 min. video "used" from and finally watched it last night.

Although I had never heard of Peter Russell before, I was was browsing through Amazon's "recommendations" presented to me and was intrigued by the title of the DVD. Half concerned that it might be a Christian religious treatment on "creationism" I overrode that "feeling" and went with my intuition that it was truly more about "consciousness", a subject matter that has held great fascination for me for a while now. Peter presents the concepts quite clearly in a down-to-earth manner, along with great videography and graphics (à la "What the Bleep?"), and explores the deep essence of who/what we truly are. By the end of the DVD I was elated I had picked it up and want to share it with everyone I know. It puts together exactly how I view reality and what it means to be conscious. Hang on tight 'cause if you haven't peered beyond the veil before, Peter surely does an awesome job of showing you exactly HOW to do it and WHAT that really means! My only regret about the DVD is that it was too short! :-) I wanted it to keep going deeper, but it does do a good job of setting the stage for further personal research.

I intend to explore more of Peter's work now that I have been given a glimpse into his own mind.

Another DVD set I picked up last year (also on Amazon.
