Product Description

In early 1998, Simon Apple released their first single, It's Over, taken from their debut CD From The Toybox. In April 1998, It's Over had climbed to #21 nationally on the Adult Contemporary Gavin chart. By late summer, the second single, A Boy Like Me, reached #29, and the seasonal single, Scenes Of December , hit #43. While this is their official debut CD, recordings previous to this are available on the Archives - Apples To Apples, Dust To Dust double CD, which is available on their official website.

This is the kind of CD that I can just play over and over again and never get tired of it. The lyrics are unique and mate with the music to perfection. There is so much to hear in the "stories" that are being told. The music has a wonderful varietal blend of notes that you could never accuse Simon Apple songs of "sounding all the same" yet their style is distinguishable. Although you really cannot compare Simon Apple to any other group, it's definitely a CD for any one enjoys listening to Kansas, Dave Matthews Band and Peter Gabriel. As to my favorite, that's a tough one, but I'd have to say it's "A Boy Like Me." I look forward to the next release. I have become a "seasoned" fan.

I keep hearing that "everything that can be written has been written." Obviously, whomever has quoted these words has never heard what Simon Apple continues to produce musically. The material is deep, but not pretentious. The chords are beautiful, and not expected. There's a feeling from deep within the heart; and a sarcasm that insists on success without without ever comprimising the true musicianship. These guys could play anything, but obviously care about the art, as well as pleasing the listener!

"From The Toybox" by Simon Apple is the best album I've heard in a long time! Jeff Miller's songwriting is superb. The arrangements are intricate and compelling. The vocals are powerful, reminiscent of Steve Walsh's. The drummer's voice is awesome! I could listen to this album indefinitely; it really packs a musical punch and there's always something new to discover!

I have not taken this CD out of my car's CD player since I bought it!! It is fresh, different and absolutely awesome. If you are looking for something new this is it. The songs are great, the music is great and the vocals are incredible. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has an ear for music and is tired of the trash that is out there today!!
