Book Description

August 31, 2005 8 and up3 and up
Have you listened to how we use the phrase from here to there in one way or another? Most everything in life is about from here to there.

When a "life passage" is particularly challenging, we can benefit from the experiences of other travelers on the road of life. We have hope that we can gain some light for our own from here to there decision making.

From Here To There is that kind of story; a story of Chris' quest to gain some perspective dealing with his dad's death and his own struggle with cancer. While dotted with faith language (because our main character was a person of faith), no attempt is made to define faith for the reader.

Instead, you'll find a book that offers validity for your questions about life's journey, affirmation of every feeling that surfaces, and possibilities for creative expression yearning to emerge from within. Look for the question marks that appear throughout the artwork. For now friend, buckle your seatbelt and enjoy your life's roller coaster ride From Here To There.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A beautifully done book inviting children to enter the journey of grief, loss and change with honesty and hope. -- Rev. Jenny Badenhop, United Church of Christ, August 2005

As a hospice chaplain I need quality resources for families. Few books have been as helpful as this one. -- Gordon W. Burton, Hospice Chaplain, September, 2005

This book is helpful in my organ donation work. Recently the family of a young donor found it most beneficial. -- Matt Wingler, Surgical Coordinator, January, 2006

This well-written and beautifully illustrated book is dedicated to Christopher Morrison...His incredible journey through grief and illness was the inspiration for this beautiful book that gently takes the reader From Here To There. Every page encourages the reader to explore the roller coaster of feelings that range from fear, anger, sadness to happiness and peace that come from ...learning about the eternal... This book reminds all who are grieving and transitioning through life's challenges that the journey has to be undertaken if one wants to find healing. The second part of the book is called Express Yourself and encourages everyone, regardless of age, to express himself with words or pictures. There are also instructions for making a dream catcher and a treasure box. The book ends with a page listing what the normal feelings and behaviors are. From Here To There is a worthy companion through life's transitions. --© 2008 Reprinted with permission from Bereavement Publications, Inc, Living With Loss™ Magazine, Spring 2006, Vol. 20 No. 1, pg 38

A New Beginning October 30, 2007
By Kim
Format:Hardcover
Loosing my father tragically to suicide, feeling my life spiral out of control and seeing my 7 year old son and two teenage daughters deal with this loss, we were searching to make sense, find peace and help. This story allowed us to feel the pain, express our feelings, connect to our faith and begin the pathway to healing. Through Chris's journey we identified feelings and heart issues hidden deeply. Although written for a child, the child inside all of us cried out for healing. We were able to identify hurts, express feelings, experience unconditional love/acceptance and healing. This story is leading us to a renewed exciting faith journey.

Amazing. December 13, 2005
Format:Hardcover
This book was written about a close friend of mine, Chris Morrison, who lost his dad to cancer then only a few short months later was diangnosed with cancer on his 16th birthday and lost his battle with cancer January 13,2005 at the age of 16. I think the book is a great way for other people going through a similar situations to realize that they're not alone in the way they are feeling and that it's ok to feel this way. Ben did an excellent job. He used a poetry because Chris was such a big fan of Dr. Suess. You should definitely check this book out. =) There is also a new book in the series called, My Friend Matilda which talks about pet companionship. So look out for that one also. God Bless.

Another opportuity for anyone dealing with grief to come to a safe place and explore their own emotions. This is a well-crafted, thoughtful treasure that allows people of all ages to confront their varied responses to difficult losses. Of particular interest are the activities and suggestions for continued thought included at the end of the book. The images allow one to dream while the text keeps a person grounded in difficult realities - a tricky balance to achieve that is done with grace and skill. Overall, this book is a gentle approach to confronting one's loss, and it allows the reader to begin a spiritual and healing journey in a creative and non-threatening way.
