I ended up being stuck in Amsterdam for almost 2 weeks as a result of the volcano. This little book fit right into my pocket and went everywhere with me. I ended up going just about everywhere it recommended and then some. I also had another book, a little larger, that supplemented for trips outside of Amsterdam. There was no doubt that I had perfect coverage and in fact will be lending my books to some friends who will be heading over later and, hopefully will not get stuck in town.

The book is logical. The font is read-able. It fits in a jacket pocket or purse. It does not have a pushy viewpoint. The fold out map was clear.

With Frommer's it's hard to go wrong. Book is concise, accurate, and easy to use. Buy ahead of time and peruse. Definitely learn about day trips from the city and choose one or two. Great compact size.

This guide while in Amsterdam was very useful. Great maps and great tips on all the nooks and crannies of a great city. I liked that it was small enough to carry around and had a pull of map that was useful.

I just received the book and have not used it in Amsterdam yet but just reading through it I am impressed--the size will make it easy to carry at about 4 by 7 inches--the information concise and complete--the fold out map on the front cover is very convenient and the larger map in the back pocket has all the detail you could want--the maps in the individual sections of the book for things to see and do give a clear reference and again the corresponding descriptions provide sufficent detail--great too that it covers thing like emergencies from medical, dental, to the embassy addresses and phone numbers. Overall very impressed and I have to believe that it will make take a lot of the stress out of our visit.

I have been using Amsterdam Day by Day in planning our trip. Since we will only be there for one day and night this book tells you the best way to use the time you have. The maps are especially useful in locating a place to stay that will be convenient to what we want to do since we have so little time there. The information on public transportation is especially useful. I plan on taking the book with me when I go.

Ordered a few books at the same time and this one got to me first. This book is also perfect for the trip to Amsterdam and cannot wait to go. Map in it is great. Thank you!

Follow up - I downgraded this guide book to 2-star from 4-star. I was in Amsterdam last week, due to the error of this book's map, my family wasted one hour back and forth on the street. We asked taxi driver, local resident, and policeman, no one knew the restaurant. We finally picked a close-by restaurant that was also recommended by this book. The restaurant was bad. Our family from then on dumped this book. We simply could not trust the information of this book.

This book is organized so well for anyone to plan a trip in Amsterdam. The writing, the map, favorite's highlights, and quality of printing are excellent. It's a very friendly book, and easy to carry too. The reason for missing 5-stars is that this book does not tell how/where to see the windmill. But I strongly recommended everyone should get this book before heading for Amsterdam.
