5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide! Glad I got this one, June 24, 2007
This review is from: Frommer's Arizona 2007 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
I didn't buy this online. I visited the local bookstore and took every book on Arizona off the shelf and looked at them all and chose this book because it had what I considered the best overall layout and approach. It turned out to be an **excellent** guide for our week-long Arizona trip. The book provides just enough information on each area as well as suggested drives and activities. I found it to be extremely helpful. Unlike other guidebooks, this one has a personality shining through. There's a person behind the information---you'll find language like 'this is my favorite..." or "...is why I like this ..." Some of the descriptive passages are very well-written. The information was timely and helpful, too. We constantly referred to it and felt very good about our choice of guidebooks. It was so helpful, I made a mental note to go back and write this review...

5.0 out of 5 stars WORTH THE PRICE, May 6, 2008
This was an excellent guide for people who have never been to Arizona. You can't get lost with it. The way it's organized makes it easy to read. You can go directly to the section you need without wasting time flipping the pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars reliable, November 9, 2008

I used this guidebook on my recent trip to Arizona. It was accurate and a handy guide to have. It did not, however blaze any trails. What I mean by this is that the author does not uncover many gems, but gives precise information about what is fairly well known. Also, like many guidebooks, does not want to give thumbs down to any tourist attraction. For example, we went out of our way leaving the grand canyon to visit the Cameron Trading Post, which is a quaint sounding name for an overpriced store of Native American handiwork. The author did say that the Trading Post sold some fine and expensive products, but did not say that it is an overpriced tourist trap. Had he wrote this, it would saved us wasted hours.
However I gave the book 5 stars because it did help alot on our trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Travel Guide!, October 13, 2008
By
We used this travel guide on our recent trip to Arizona. We had never been to Arizona before,so we used the rating system to help us chose what not to miss. We are so glad we took the time to use it to research ahead of time. We had a great trip with the help of Frommer's Arizona 2008!

My husband and I found this book to be very insightful and great tips for our trip to Phoenix, Scottsdale and Sedona. Even though it was a 2007 edition and we traveled in Oct. 2008, it was still a great deal for us to buy and take with us.

Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel is alive and well (we all travelled Europe in another lifetime with his "Europe on Ten Dollars a Day" as our Bible). This book could be better, as he needs new spunk and research from his writers, but we have used this one yearly for six years during Spring Break in Arizona. I have travelled in 73 countries and always use Frommer and Lonely Planet, who cover nearly everywhere (the fun was when there were NO travel guides!) and we buy THREE good alternative guidebooks, and then glean the best hints from each. Don't use JUST this book, as you will miss many good things, as Frommer has gone overwhelmingly Middle Class - if such a thing still exists - and doesn't really explore ANYTHING in depth in this series. Still, you will find secret historical treasures, hotels and restaurant finds such as not covered in the "Standard" travel guides. Even the State of Arizona does a pretty poor job of truly promoting all the wonderful things that they have to offer, so as perhaps our most complex State from a scenic, geologic and cultural viewpoint, you will find that you can spend years travelling Arizona and still have more to explore! That is enough and the BEST REASON to buy this book! Great hints from an alternative viewpoint! HINT: Buy THREE Arizona Travel Guides from Amazon.com to give you your best travel experience!
