Book Description

Frommer's Complete Guides March 1, 2010
This new first edition guide introduces two exotic destinations fast becoming required stops for globetrotting tourists. Through our expert author, readers are exposed to the rich culture and poignant history in Cambodia and Laos. Discover the region's food and gift markets, lovely beaches and islands, colorful temples, and charming villages.

This title covers highlights of both countries, including Cambodia's tourist Mecca and spiritual center Angkor Wat, capital Phnom Penh, and beach resort Sihanoukville. Laos covers the relaxed city Vientiane, Luang Prabang (a UNESCO World Heritage city for its blend of Laotian and European architecture), and top spots for ecotourism. The planning chapter includes extensive information on sustainable development and volunteer vacations. Special features include a Khmer and Laotian language primer and separate history and culture chapters for both nations.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it, January 26, 2011

I purchased this as a kindle version and its impossible to negotiate. Don't buy it, or any other ereader travel guide. There is no ability to search. With a normal travel guide, there are usually bits of paper stuck in it, notes taken and pages turned over for future reference, can't do this on a ereader. Also, from what I have read on this ereader version, there is zilch info on Angkor Wat and other temples, which is why you go to Siem Reap in Cambodia. I could be wrong there, but am yet to find any info on this guide...... Also, Daniel White, the author seems to have gone on a hotel and restaurant tour, with no thought for the local ambiance of Siem Reap.

2.0 out of 5 stars some questionable listings, January 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Frommer's Cambodia and Laos (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
I've used many Frommers books in the past and they have all been 100% dependable. This one was not. The Seng Hout hotel in Battambang was recommended. Be warned. Some of the rooms do not have windows and at least 4 of the hotel rooms that I visited were clean but had a lingering smell of sewage. It is imperative that you have a flashlight with you if you attempt to see Angkor Wat at sunrise. Also, having earplugs for any long distance bus or car rides is highly recommended. High volume cd's, dvd,s or horn blowing can drive a rider to distraction. The Golden Banana in Siem Reap is lovely, but most rooms are accessed by steep flights of stairs. This could be a problem for some visitors. A final note..if you have asthma or any other breathing difficulty, you might want to reconsider your trip. The pollution in many areas is pronounced.
