A third-generation Southern Californian, Mark Hiss is a writer and photographer who has lived in San Diego for more than 25 years. He was founding editor of the visitor guide Where San Diego and Performances, the playbill magazine for the city’s leading performing arts venues. He is also a recovering publicist who spent many years working for several of San Diego’s top theater companies.

I've been an avid fan of Frommer's books from all the European and Stateside traveling I do with my family; however, I was disappointed in this San Diego version. Mainly with the "Where to Eat" sections. Luckily, on my trip, I was able to have some locals make recommendations and found some fantastic restaurants (particularly in the Gaslamp District). We also found a great Dueling Piano Bar. None of that was in this tour book. In any case, Frommer's faithfully provided a good orientation as to what the main things to site see were.
