Out of the two guidebooks I bought recently this one is the top. Great coverage of the cruiselines and good coverage of ports. Cruise reviews were not too indepth and not too general. Covered all major cruiselines (to my knowledge) and a lot of the higher end cruiselines also. The ports were well covered also, would have liked to see more detailed step by step info on how to get from port to train station for those of us who do ports on our own. Though for many ports does have a very good map of the "tourist" areas in the ports. I will see how it works on my cruise inside the ports and let you all know.

I bought this book after I had booked my cruise, so it didn't help with choice of cruise lines, etc., but that information would have been helpful before I bought my cruise. The book says a little about each port, including one I didn't expect it to cover: Malta. The reviews are necessarily short, and I would suggest a more in depth book if you are going to spend much time in a city, but they are informative enough for a one-day stay. Maps seem to be good.

This guide is heavy on cruise line data but has enough info on places to be worthwhile for scouting the ports of call.

To much about the types of ship,

I originally though I was buy a book about the ports of call but actually 3/4s of this book talks about types of boat and who rides on them. If you have not booked your cruise yet this would be a handy manual but if you really want information about the ports of call there are better books.

I have been on several of these cruises and to some of the places in this book. The information as so bland and generic, nothing that isn't on the cruise websites. I could have sat at my computer and written this book without seeing a single ship or port. Don't waste a dime on this.

Very needed information if you are going to take a cruise! I have never been on a cruise yet but am taking all this information in to make a informed decision!
