Perfect guide book for weekend trip,
By
This review is from: Frommer's San Francisco 2009 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
We spent only a couple of days in the SF area. As visitors who had not been here before, we found it very useful about which places to avoid (tourist traps) and which places to see. The restaurant guide was also very helpful, not just for SF but for the surrounding towns, like Sausalito. The hotel guide was limited, but helpful, as was the information about various neighborhoods. Overall, a great book to have on hand when planning your trip!

I purchased this book originally simply to help plan out our trip and learn more about San Francisco before we went. Once we started to tour around San Francisco, we simply couldn't go anywhere without it. The bus/trolley map was extremely useful for getting around the City. When our plans changed, as they did often due to weather or just being tired, we were able to look up a place to eat or how to get home quickly. The recommendations this book made were great. We loved Cha Cha Cha's tapas and sangria and were able to learn more about where we were and what we were seeing then the average traveler. This book offered much more than I was able to find online and was an all inclusive guide to the city that we found ourselves opening very often to figure out what we were seeing or which way we should walk. MUST BUY! Great book!

Everyone knows how good Frommer's books are. The San fran version is no different. Lots of tips and tricks to help you make the most of your visit.
They also had one of the better maps for navigating San Francisco. We did the 69-mile scenic drive. It was quite interesting!! If you're going there and you want to learn more about it: I highly recommend picking up a Frommer's guide. Always well-written and handy maps make your visit a lot smoother.

Although I have not made my trip to San Francisco yet, I love this book. There is so much detailed information that I feel quite prepared to travel to San Francisco. The author does not mince words with his reviews of restaurants and hotels which I really appreciate. The worst thing is going somewhere and not knowing what to expect. That will not happen with this book.

This review is from: Frommer's Los Angeles 2009 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
Los Angeles tourists will greatly benefit from this updated tour guide - even temporary renovation closures are noted. The descriptions of attractions, along with hours and fees and area location are invaluable in avoiding missing key attractions because of lack of awareness. Also valuable are its inclusiveness - not just L.A. proper, but also Long Beach and the general Orange County area.

My wife and I went on our first trip to Los Angeles last month. I purchased this Frommer's guide to help us out. We are avid travellers and have used many Frommer's guides in the past to great success. The Los Angeles 2009 guide was no exception.
Great suggestions on things to do and see and the inclusion of phone numbers, costs and hours on many attractions was great. It's also nice that Frommer's puts one or more stars besides things that really should not be missed. It allowed us to prioritize our weekend and see some of the best attractions/venues. Overall I found this guide about as up to date as one could hope. No guide will every be up to date in "real time" so there is always a chance that a place could have closed or hours may have changed but we never had that problem with anything we did after looking at the Frommer's guide. This was an excellent guide for our weekend adventure. Recommended. |
