Great all-inclusive guide,

I purchased the Michelin guide and the Fommers, and the Frommers guide has proved to be infinitely more useful. It is easy to read, very descriptive, and includes activities and lodging in all price ranges. My only complaint is that there aren't pictures, but the guide would be unmanageably large if there were, so it's forgivable! Enjoy your trip to Germany!

I'm a Frommer's level traveler. Their Germany guide is quite good. My wife, who is a novice traveler to Germany found it particularly helpful, as it gives impressions as well as facts.

Good info on Berlin; well organized and useful,

Bought this for a recent trip to Berlin and tore out the pages on Berlin to take with me, since I don't like carrying any extra weight while out touring around. The info was useful, esp as a counterpoint to Rick Steves' pages on Berlin which I also carried. As we were heading to Schloss Charlottenburg, I read Rick Steves' assessment that it wasn't worth going! But there was good helpful info in the Fodor's writeup that helped us enjoy the trip we had already committed to.
I was glad to have this as an additional viewpoint on the various sites and sights.

Not a bad travel book, fairly complete, decent detail on many of the cities within the country, but the book does lack pictures, has a few in the front of the book. That would have made the book more complete and enjoyable. As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

The Frommer's Guide to Germany seems really geared towards retirees: you will find a lot of opera, church, and renaissance art coverage; but little information about discotheques, rock music, or modern art, etc. Of course, there is no reason for younger folks to shun the classics, but if you're younger (say, a student), you may be better served by the Lonely Planet guide to Germany.

This guide along with all the Frommers guides is very usefull in the planning of a trip. One thing I really like about the guide is how it not only breaks the country up by regions but it also will give itinerary suggestions. And....it comes with a map.

I've used Frommers books for several countries as well as Outer Banks. The city/ area maps are good, not hand-drawn like those of a certain popular Europe writer/ pbs-tv host. Big maps in back are not needed if you're taking train, and probably not enough if you rent a car. I never rent a car when overseas, so don't need that big map. This is a guidebook, not a mapbook, so if you rent a car, get a real map. The use of colored text is consistent throughout Frommers and easy to read and find items. Guidebook style preferences depend on the traveler and their style.

Frommer's Germany Guide,
This review is from: Frommer's Germany 2007 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
The book was not as helpful as Lonely Planet's book on Germany. The Frommer's did include a pull-out map of Berlin and Munich, but if you weren't going there, you were out of luck.

This book is somewhat helpful. I needed information on a specific part of Germany so I had too much information. Maybe a book on just a section of Germany would have been better for me.
