Thorough, Comprehensive and well-put together - excellent guide for Italy,
By Gabriel E. Borlean (Odense, Denmark - birthtown of fairytale-writer H.C. Andersen) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Frommer's Italy 2006 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
Thorough, Comprehensive and well-put together. From all the travel books out there on Italy this one is not a compilation of mere facts, photos, phone numbers and page-fillers. What sets Frommer's apart is the information provided and the style in which is presented. You will find lodging options for various budgets, a list of most important sites to see and even suggested ways to spend time in a city if you have only 1 day or as much as 5 days, great places to eat and great places to splurge if you can stretch your dollar. Be aware that this is not a book for the ones on a shoestring budget. Frommer provides a good introduction to Italy without being overloading you with mass amounts of information or pictures, a truly well-balanced book. When I backpacked 4 months through Europe I had a copy of the Lonely Planet for Europe (a thick and heavy book) because it covered more cities and esoteric towns, a ripped chapters of all the international youth hostals Europe of the countries I visited, and as primary guide for nominal cities and capitals I used Frommers (ripped the book and kept only chapters of countries planning to visit - so I can keep the weight down).

Very complete travel guide!,
This review is from: Frommer's Italy 2006 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
Frommer's Italy 2006 is a very complete and easy to read travel guide. I especially enjoyed the restaurant tips (off the beaten track and very "Italian") and the maps.To be even more appealing and to obtain 5 stars, it would have to have more pictures to get a better impression of the sites.

I'm not even half way through and I feel like I could make it over there inexpensively, safely and not missing one interesting site along the way. This is the most helpful and interesting guide book I've ever read. I can't wait for Italy!

Frommer's Italy - By Jai Kapadia,
This review is from: Frommer's Italy 2006 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
Having grown up in Italy for 15 years, I think I understand the place really well, but I still learnt a lot from this book. Great indepth coverage on restaurants, hotels and places to visit. Plus the color maps are very useful.

This is a great book for planning your travel. I wish I'd bought it before I'd booked my leave. The only downside I can think of is the included map. From the product description I thought it would be of all Italy but it's only a map of Rome.

Same old stuff,

I have a copy of Frommer's Italy '98 and it reads almost exactly the same as the "new and improved" 2006 edition. The copy is virtually unchanged under the section Best Travel Experiences. Apparently, the only changes that have been made are the lire is now the euro and the prices have been updated on food and lodging. I guess this book would be helpful if it's your one and only choice.
