Great Little Guide
on December 10, 2010
As a resident of Jamaica for the past two years, I was initially underwhelmed by the idea of yet another guidebook to the island. I've used the Lonely Planet guide from time to time, and have browsed others. I thought I had a pretty good idea of Jamaican culture and the island's attractions.
I was wrong. Frommer's "Jamaica Day by Day" packs a dazzling amount of information into its small size (small enough to carry in a purse or pocket). I keep finding new gems of information and learning of special interest areas, hotels, and restaurants I had no idea existed. The author nicely shares a side of The Rock that is authentic and well researched, especially the self-guided activities and suggested touring itineraries. I also appreciate that Frommer's covers a broad range of budget options for all sorts of travelers. The modest price, attractive layout, useful maps, and--most of all-- smart, fresh approach to Jamaica makes this an essential guide. You'll want this book if you're visiting the island, and if you live here--well, you will really want this book too.
