2.0 out of 5 stars You'd Be Better Off With Another Book, June 13, 2006
This review is from: Frommer's Maui 2006 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
This book was okay at best. First of all the pull out map is the worst I've seen. My husband and I decided to use it on our first day there - a highway pictured on the map showed a somewhat straight line going around one side of Maui. This road ended up being a one lane dirt road along the side of a sharp cliff with the most hairpin turn I've ever seen. Come to find out, most other Maui maps have a warning by this road for first time visitors telling them to be very cautious.

The layout of this book is horrible as well. Things were hard to find and I felt like I was in the index more than the actual book. We stayed near Pa'ia, and found that our Frommer's Maui mentioned several restaurants, but left out the amazing shops and the greatest grocery store on the island!

You'd be much better off buying Hidden Maui or Maui Revealed. When I finally ditched Frommers book and picked up one of the above mentioned, we were led to the most beautiful beach walk we've ever taken. These other books also not only tell you recommended places, but where not to go - which we wished we had know before hand. (FYI - don't visit the Enchanting Floral Gardens.)

Frommer's assumes that Maui is a well signed resort island - it's not. You need a book with more direction on how to actually find the beautiful spots on the island.

I wouldn't recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Traveling to Hawaii? Get another book., May 1, 2006
This review is from: Frommer's Maui 2006 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
Generically written at best, Frommer's continues to fall short of its competitors in regards to Hawaii. This is the last time I'll purchase a Frommer's guide to any of the islands in Hawaii. The content is descriptive and thorough but the lack of illustrations and photographs makes the book rather dull and boring. Other books excell when Frommer's does not; as another reviewer hints at, don't waste your time with Frommer's unless you want a novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Maui revealed, November 2, 2006

This review is from: Frommer's Maui 2006 (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
Maui Revealed was far better at pointing us in the right directions for "off the beaten path" activities and sights during our trip. Frommers Maui does have some helpful maps... but that was the extent of it's use for us.

Maui, also called the Valley Isle, is just a small dot in the vast Pacific Ocean, but it has the potential to offer visitors unforgettable experiences: floating weightless through rainbows of tropical fish, standing atop a 10,000-foot volcano watching the sunrise color the sky, and listening to the raindrops in a bamboo forest. Read the first page
