Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The photographs of lush scenery, high sea cliffs, bright waterfalls, jagged volcanoes, brilliant sunsets, and postcard beaches that launch this book give you more than enough reason to seek out the islands of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai. But if you did go, where would you stay and what would you do? Both questions are addressed here with thoroughness and flair.

Jeanette Foster and Jocelyn Fujii, Hawaii residents and widely published travel writers, discuss money-saving package deals, the best time of year to go, and what to pack. They list the best of Maui, from the beaches, restaurants, and moderately priced accommodations to galleries, golf courses, and snorkeling. Then come the detail chapters on Maui, its sights, activities, restaurants, and lodgings, and chapters on Molokai and Lanai, as well. They do a lovely job of presenting useful information accessibly, and better yet, they make it easy to take a Hawaiian holiday. --Stephanie Gold --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good book on Maui., September 21, 1999
We just returned from Maui, having taken the family there for 8 days. We also took 3 guide books, so I was able to compare all three books in real time while on the island. We disliked Fodor's book, but found Frommer's to be very good.

The information is well-organized, up-to-date, and very helpful while on the island. But the best of the tour books was: "Maui and Lana'i : Making the Most of Your Family Vacation (8th Ed)" by Early and Stilson. This is the book I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars All you want to know about Maui and more., February 20, 1999

This review is from: Frommer's Maui '99 (Serial) (Paperback)
I bought this book prior to our umpteenth trip to Maui because we wanted to do something different for a change and it seemed to have good advice on off- the- beaten- track accommodations, restaurants, experiences. It never disappointed us. As a professional travel consultant, I now refer to it with regularity to help plan trips for my clients who also want to do something "different" on the island. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars best guide available for planning a trip to Maui, November 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Frommer's Maui '99 (Serial) (Paperback)
A terrific guide on the best of everything in Maui, including hotels, restaurants, beaches, sights, etc. Provides plenty of details and insightful commentary - it's clear that they did their homework. Great mile-by-mile guide for the drive to Hana, directing you to beautiful waterfalls, black sand beaches, flora and fauna. I've used it for two trips to Maui in recent years and it proved invaluable. A wonderful resource for anyone planning a trip to Maui.
