5.0 out of 5 stars Frommer's New York City with Kids, 6th Edition
I have two things to rave about - the book and the service from Amazon.com.

First, the book. I wanted to take my 12-year-old son to New York City but had no idea how to plan it, not being terribly familiar with the city. The book made it so easy!

Not only does it describe in great detail the plusses and minuses of activities, it tells what ages are likely to enjoy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent book but not at all what I was looking for
I needed a book on New York that would identify good restaruants to take kids before the theatre and so forth. This book gives chain restaurants (think Chilis) as suggestions to take kids.....New York City and I am going to a chain? I think not!! We didn't utilize this book.

I have two things to rave about - the book and the service from Amazon.com.

First, the book. I wanted to take my 12-year-old son to New York City but had no idea how to plan it, not being terribly familiar with the city. The book made it so easy!

Not only does it describe in great detail the plusses and minuses of activities, it tells what ages are likely to enjoy the activity, the hours, the cost and even how to get there.

After just 2 hours of going through the book and looking at the terrific maps that break Manhattan into three parts, I was able to plan our four days to perfection. Because of the maps with each destination circled and numbered for easy reference, I knew where all the places were within an area, and we didn't waste time traveling on the same day from one extreme of the island to the other.

The restaurant section was terrific, too, and very "right-on."

Now about Amazon. com. I ordered my book at 9 a.m. one Saturday morning. To my amazement, it arrived just a little more than 48 hours later in my maibox! I've been raving about that to everyone.

All-in-all, my shopping experience was terrific and the book was terrific.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough, entertaining guide to read, January 25, 1999
By A Customer
I have already taken the kids to the Big Apple but wanted to be better prepared for the next trip. I found this guide extremeley helpful and accurate in its assessments. The restaurant reviews are particularly good- that was one area where I "winged it" and wished I had more working knowledge of the city. This guide is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative guide for travel with kids, May 14, 2004
By A Customer
Having traveled several times to NYC as a couple, we were unsure as to what our plans would be with two boys, 2 & 6. This guide was invaluable. It is an excellent resource for families. It is particularly useful when choosing family outings, accommodations, & restaurants. Age guidelines & menu summaries are provided for each restaurant. Descriptions of hotels & rooms (& space in the rooms) are given. Lots of info on kids' activities that isn't readily available to a visitor such as shows & museums for children, playgrounds, & even tips for finding a public restroom. And much more. Phone #s, websites, pricing, & age guidelines are given for all. Plus, lots of tips for many popular destinations about waiting times, environment for a small child (or older child), etc. - all that info that parents of young children want! All in all a great guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great source for families traveling in NYC, August 3, 2002

Our family just returned from a long weekend in NYC. We found the book invaluable. The book recommended the Doubletree Hotel as the best 'kid-friendly' place to stay, and they were right on. The rooms were spacious, modern and clean. The hotel also had a great location right on Times Square. The book also suggested John's Pizza which turned about to be a great call. The pizza was great, the restaurant loud enough for our kids and we were able to walk right in and get a table on a Saturday night.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book went everywhere with me!, October 6, 2005

I purchased two books for my recent visit to NYC (my first trip with kids.) This book (The other was "New York's 50 Best Places to take Children")was exactly what I needed to find great places to eat with my kids...and to help me figure out which tourist attractions were worth the time and cost. It's well-organized and has a great rating system for restaurants and sight-seeing. I looked at many guide books....and this one was the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars most useful book for us in NY, May 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Our family recently spent time in Manhattan. We took several books with us, and this was the one we found most useful. It's not perfect -- I found myself flipping pages a lot to connect restaurants and attractions etc, but it was still so loaded with good info that I always took it with me when we went out. We found several good restaurants that were just as depicted (though one was closed), and we chose several places to visit and were not disappointed. There's a good introductory chapter as well as excellent information about parks, playgrounds, restaurants, hotels, shopping, walks, entertainment and side trips. No pictures. Excellent resource.

4.0 out of 5 stars From NYC, August 20, 2008
I grew up in the area, and surpised myself by purchasing this book before a trip back with my than 2 year old son...needless to say, in the past 3 years, every time I have taken him to NYC, we have had really fun filled, well organized plans thanks to this book...when traveling (anywhere) with children, there is nothing better than knowing exactly where you are going to eat at the end of the day, and exactly how to get there...that said, NYC has a high turnover rate for just about everything...call your chosen resturant first to make sure they didn't go out of business, check the MTA site to make sure the subway line you plan on taking isn't limiting service that day due to track work, and you'll be fine...the city can be an intimidating place to lots of people, but it really dosen't need to be, and this book is a great start for those visiting with children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for first time visitors to NYC!, July 24, 2006
We recently spent a week in New York state for a family wedding. Three of those days were spent sightseeing in NYC with our two children, ages 6 and 3. This guidebook was invaluable! We used it to plan our agenda in advance, and then carried it with us on our trip. We had a great time, and we knew exactly where to go and what to do. This is a great resource for any family! I especially liked the detailed information about transportation options, playgrounds in the city, and family-friendly restaurants.
