About the Author

Raised in the rural Pennsylvania Dutch community of Kutztown, Lenora Dannelke has eaten her fair share of shoofly pie, funnel cakes, and scrapple. She currently lives with her husband, daughter, mother-in-law, and 20,000 books in the Historic District of Allentown. The family is owned by a 90-pound adopted boxer. As a food and travel writer, she’s a regular contributor to Backpacker, Chile Pepper, Visit Florida, Pennsylvania Wine-Spirits Quarterly, Philadelphia magazine’s Home & Garden, Elegant Wedding, and many other magazines. Her Dining Out column appears each month in Berks County Living.

Lauren McCutcheon was born in, grew up outside of, and currently lives in Philadelphia. She loves it here. She is the author of A Virgin’s Guide to Everything (Warner Books, 2005) and The Right Way (David & Charles, 2006). She’s also an editor-at-large at Philadelphia magazine, former restaurant critic for Philadelphia Weekly, and former editor for the Philadelphia site of www. citysearch.com. 5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful for a recent trip, October 31, 2008
This review is from: Frommer's Philadelphia & the Amish Country (Frommer's Complete Guides) (Paperback)
I looked at a few different travel books for Philadelphia before selecting this one. I really liked the book's layout -- very logical and straightforward, with useful itineraries, accurate descriptions of sights, and interesting walking tours. The food suggestions I tried panned out nicely, with the ranking/discussion of cheesesteak spots much appreciated. And I found a place to stay that was reasonably priced, clean, and centrally located through this book. Very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars all the info you need, August 19, 2010

great travel book w all the info you need. phone numbers, addresses, tips, operating hours...it's all there. i always read one fodor's travel book and one frommers to be sure everything is covered. i have both and one is as good as the other. i didn't really need both, but love reading them. i find the moon series to also be very informative. check the dates of publication before you buy. they are still selling the older ones and you want to be certain to get the most recent edition. skip the insiders travel guide and get that one from the library if you want to read it. those books are always thicker but never as comprehensive despite their page numbers.

Great guide. Used it to find the best places to see since we were only there a couple days. Found a great cheesesteak place off the beaten path thanks to Frommer's.
