2.0 out of 5 stars Use Lonely Planet Instead, July 5, 2004

This review is from: Frommer's Prague & the Best of the Czech Republic (Paperback)
I read this book and then traveled to Prague with the information I thought I had absorbed. Frommer's Prague is incredibly innaccurate and is full of errors. To name a few, the times it lists for castles is incorrect as well as the location of several tourist spots. The guide assumes the train drops one off at the site, when it can lead one several towns astray from the actual location. Furthermore, in terms of times to destinations that guide makes it seem that only a few hours are necessary when one could spend an entire day getting to only one spot. This especially is true for Karstejn Castle and Krivoklat. Please make sure to print maps off the computer before you depend on this book (the book also lacks a great number of necessary maps for tourist spots). Prague and the Czech Republic are not difficult to navigate, but without a good guidebook with maps and relevant information, days and hours are wasted wandering, which leads to ruined adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly accurate, well-organized and the right level of detail, October 23, 2005
This review is from: Frommer's Prague & the Best of the Czech Republic (Paperback)
We loved this book while we were traveling because it didn't overwhelm us with too much detail, like Lonely Planet and gave us recommendations that we really came to trust. We just got back from Prague and the Czech Republic and used this book to take us beyond Prague to Czesky Krumlov to Pilsen and Karlovy Vary, not to mention some amazing castles, including Orlik and Karstejn and used this book to find hotels, restaurants and sites during our 1 week trip. We found that the book was amazingly accurate with its descriptions. For example, we ended up staying in a hotel in Pilsen that the book told us was clean, but had surly service - we found that was perfectly true! The woman at the front desk practically growled at us, but we completely expected it! The book told us that the castle at Orlik "never disappoints" and that was true - we had a wonderful time touring Orlik, and would probably never had visited had the book not recommended it. We were surprised at the level of accuracy that the book's recommendations provided throughout our entire trip. If you are a bit beyond the backpacker's approach to travel, this book is a great way to go. I highly recommend it.
