About the Author

About the Authors France and its southern tier are a "second home" to Darwin Porter, a native of North Carolina, and Danforth Prince, who lived in France throughout most of his 20s. Darwin, who has worked in television advertising and as a bureau chief for the Miami Herald and who hopes someday to create a perfect bouillabaisse, wrote the original version of Frommer's France. Dan, who began his association with Darwin in 1982, worked for the Paris bureau of the New York Times between renovations of a historic building in the Loire Valley and bicycle trips through Provence and the Camargue. Both writers know southern France well, as they've made countless trips there, for both work and R&R.

TYPICAL FROMMER GUIDEBOOK-EASY TO READ...RECOMMENDS RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS, THEREFORE LISTS ARE INCOMPLETE AS THEY DO NOT REVIEW IN A NEGATIVE MANNER. MAPS ARE VERY CLEAR, AND ATTRACTIONS ARE WELL DESCRIBED. ]

3.0 out of 5 stars Covers a lot of towns but out-of-date by fall 2008, January 6, 2009

I bought this book to help me plan a trip to Avignon and Nice during December 2008. It has good maps and covers a lot of towns in Provence and the Riviera, but much of its transportation information (prices, company names) was out-of-date by the time I travelled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to see Provence, February 13, 2008
I have always loved the Frommer's Guides and this one is no disappointment. Very useful information, with plenty of listings of restaurants, hotels, and attractions which coem in handy in a guide book. Other guide books do not have nearly as much information. So I highly recommend this one - short & sweet!
