About the Author

Noelle Salmi is a freelance writer who lived and worked in several U.S. cities and many foreign countries before moving to San Francisco in 2001. In addition to her work promoting investment overseas, she worked at a major daily newspaper and later at CNN in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Associated Press in Berlin, Germany; and United Press International in New York City. Her articles have appeared in the Santa Clara Valley Weekly, Jornal do Brasil, The West Side Spirit, Emerging Markets, USA Today, and Bay Area Parent. She is also the author of Frommer’s San Francisco Day by Day. She lives on Russian Hill with her husband Mika and daughters Annika and Natasha.

With the use of this guide, we were able to find the inside scoop on all the favorite family attractions, ranging from Fisherman's Wharf, to the Exploratorium, and even the cable cars. The author obviously had children of her own and knew all the hot spots for families. The planning guides, colored maps, and reviews on hotels and restaurants made our first trip memorable!

We hadn't been to SF in years, and not with kids. So although I knew the city a little, I can't tell you how great it was to have all the information in this book for traveling with kids. I also bought the Fodor's book--"50 things to do with kids in SF" but it wasn't nearly as helpful--just a (very good) 50 item list. The Frommer's book by contrast is a complete travel book with great restaurant choices, itineraries, how to find bathrooms (hard to do with the homeless problem), etc.

We've taken two recent trips to San Francisco with our kids (15, 11 and 2). This book proved to be invaluable! I carried it in my purse whenever we left the hotel.

The restaurant recommendations are fantastic! We were not disappointed with a single one we tried. We ventured into neighborhoods we might not otherwise have due to the detailed information in this book.

This resource is a must have for those travelling to San Francisco with kids!
