About the Author

A Denver-based freelance writer, Eric Peterson has contributed to numerous Frommer's guides covering the American West, and has written Frommer's Montana & Wyoming, Frommer’s Colorado, Frommer's Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks, and Ramble: A Field Guide to the U.S.A. Peterson also writes about travel and other topics for such publications as ColoradoBiz, Delta Sky, and the New York Daily News. In his free time, he's an avid camper and hiker, a lifelong Broncos fan, and a part-time rock star (at least in the eyes of his niece Olivia and nephews Mitch and Sam).

More About the Author

Born and raised in Colorado, Eric Peterson started traveling as a newborn child on his way back from the hospital. Numerous family road trips ensued, often with comedic effect.

Eric started writing when he was four, covering such stories as an anthropomorphic hammer fighting similarly humanoid nails and a bipedal polka-dotted gator-like creature named Erg.

He first got paid to write in his early twenties when he landed a freelance gig on a Frommer's book. That was 1995. As of 2010, Eric has written dozens of travel guides, mostly Frommer's titles, as well as his own Ramble Guides series of books: Ramble: A Field Guide to the U.S.A. (2006), Ramble Colorado (2008), Ramble California (2009), and Ramble Texas (2010).

Eric has also written for numerous magazines and newspapers during his career, including the Denver Post, Westword, the New York Daily News, United Hemispheres, Delta Sky, ColoradoBiz, Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel, and Nintendo Power. Just as I expected...a Frommer's travel guide.
Lynn A. Clough
Well, I'm biased in favor of Frommers anyway but this book is really helpful when planning a trip.
C. Brandt
It's truly a comprehensive guide that's easy to follow.

I'm so glad I got this book before going to these parks! It not only helped in planning our trip in terms of what we wanted to do and see in each park and how much time would be needed for all we wanted to do, but it was also a constant resource for us while we were in the parks! I made sure to pack it in my back pack each day we were there. It's truly a comprehensive guide that's easy to follow. Not only did we use it for the regular info like lodging, where to eat inside or outside the parks, top attractions, hikes, and so forth, but we also found ourselves using it to help determine what wildlife we saw (what we thought looked like a coyote was really a gray fox according to the descriptions in the book), finding the less publicized views and activites in these parks, history, and so much more! I'm especially glad we had it for Yosemite, where there is so much to see and do! These parks are so amazing and this guide helped us to prioritize our to-do list and make the most of our time there!

I found this guide to be helpful but would prefer higher quality photos and maps. All of the information required is probably here, but after using higher quality guides for other national parks this was disappointing. There are few guides for Sequoia and Kings Canyon. It seems to require a lot of reading and digging to find what I needed compared to others in the past from Frommers.

Well, I'm biased in favor of Frommers anyway but this book is really helpful when planning a trip. One thing I like about this book is that it also tells you where to NOT go. For instance, it tells you which campsites may be very hot in the summer months, etc. This is also easy to read with not a ton of details to bog down the reading.

This book is too compact and concise. I went to look up backpacking suggestions for Sequoia and realized that they didn't even suggest backpacking trips...only day hikes.

Easy to find useful travel info/advise in tried and true package, batteries not required. Would consider for other travel guides.
