In reading Bruce's book, I found him to be spot on. A company needs to have goals and strategies built around values. In Bruce's book he clearly gives the reasons why and functional material to work from. I know because I manage my company in this manner and it works. On the issue of managing versus coaching, I am very excited about these pages. Bruce has valuable insight to explain the difference and to explain where each is used in an organization. Coaching is exciting because it helps good employees become great employees. And, great employees become the organization and world's rainmakers. Bruce again explains a very functional approach to this explanation of an individual's journey to greatness. That in turn makes for a great organization.

Bruce's insights gleaned from his work with so many small, mid-sized and family-run businesses have been very useful to me as a guide for how to run my small, family-run and growing marketing consulting firm. It reminds me a bit of the Tom Peters books I used to read in college, though Bruce covers the "how" to run your business effectively, given the sticky issues we encounter, rather than just rehashing what other companies have done. Front Line Heroes is an easy read and some of the stories Bruce tells are pretty entertaining. This is the perfect book to read at the airport or on a plane, or as you wind down at night. My only complaint: it's too short! I want more. Hey Bruce, when's the next book coming out? ;)

I am quoted on this book's back cover and in the description above as having said, "If Bruce Hodes was a physician, he'd have the skills of a neurosurgeon; the wisdom of an internist; the insight of a pathologist; and the bedside manner of a general practitioner. As such, he is the perfect healer for whatever ails your company." I meant every word of it. In my 35+ years as a senior corporate executive in several Fortune 100 companies, I had the opportunity to work with numerous management consultants on a variety of critical business issues. Most were from the big 5 consulting firms but I found Bruce to be brighter, more dedicated, and more effective than virtually all of them.

A must read. Front Line Heroes captures Bruce's unique perspective, wisdom and insights for business all in a practical "how to" plan. I have experienced Bruce's advice and guidance first hand as a mentor, coach and strategist and have seen the amazing results from following the principles Bruce outlines in this book. Front Line Heroes is practical advice that can be put to use in some way in all business organizations or teams. I particularly like his chapter entitled, "It's all About The Middle. I'll be taking Bruce's advice in his chapter called, "Books As Compost" by having my leadership read this book ASAP.

From one business owner to another - buy this book! Front Line Heroes is a collection of straightforward tools based on true life experiences. The book is an easy read, but the content is loaded with "gold" that can be mined by your leadership team. Too often, books focused on strategic planning are painful to plow through - that is not the case with Front Line Heroes. After reading this book, I have ordered copies for my leadership team and will use it to reinforce the disciplines that grow organizations.

I meant what I said in the inside cover:
"Finally, a real business book for real business people who are in the trenches day in and day out. I can really relate to what Bruce is trying to convey as there is relevance to what I do every day. Bruce make you look in the mirror and it really makes you reflect and want to take action. Who would think that a business book could also be so beautifully written? Great flow. An easy must-read for anyone on top of a small-mid-sized business."

Being that I don't have an Amazon account, my daughter has posted this for me.

"Bruce has the unique ability to competently address cultural shortcomings of any corporation. To quickly absorb the details and then provide a practical outline of solution, taking the problem very seriously without taking himself seriously, keeping his response simply but not simplistic; a whip without the sting" Ronald P. Kotecki, President of IBSI
