3.0 out of 5 stars I hate titles.
I'm not really sure how a street punk band becomes 'bad' or 'good'--they all sound the same, but for some reason, people can make the distinction. This is somewhere in between, in my opinion (hence, three stars). I rather listen to the Devothkas or Filth (yes, I realize Filth is exactly street, but let's drop the labels for now).

I saw the Casualties about...

Let me say first off that this is REAL punk rock unlike other bands who claim to be punk. This album is filled with agression and anger from society today. The Casualties even fill this album with some political songs which isn't usually normal for them. This album puts a barrier between real punks and punk bands and the fake mall punk bands across the country. Here's the review. 10 being the best 1 being the worst

1) Casualties Army (Intro)- Great drum and bass part in the beginning of the song. Only about a minute but its a great intro into On the Front Line. 8/10

2) On the Front Line- Ripping vocals by Jorge is just a way a Casualties album should start out. Great instrumentals and lyrics. 10/10

3) Leaders of Today- Another fast paced traditional casualties song. One of the more political songs on the album great guitar solo by Jake 10/10

4) Criminal Class- Starts out slow but then picks up the intensity. Not the strongest song on the album but still is a great song. Yet another good guitar solo by Jake 9/10

5) Tomorrow Belongs to Us- Thumping bass by Rick and a good all around song. This is another one of the more political songs on the album. Great lyrics also in this one. 10/10

6)Unknown Soldier- A Slower song if thats even possible for the Casualties. Its one kick ass song though. Jorge's vocals just rip this song up and the lyrics are just kick ass. All around good song. A little different and slower for the casualties but it doesnt matter still a fast one. 10/10

7) Scarred for Life- Great guitar in this part. A great way to compliment Unknown Soldier. Another fast paced and fierce song. Great drums by Meggers who's an awesome drummer. 10/10

8) Static Feedback and Noise- One of my favorite songs on the album. Mainly focuses on the state of music of today. The chorus isnt my favorite but it has great instrumentals and lyrics. One of the fastest songs maybe on the album. 10/10

9) Media Control- Pretty good song. Another political song but maybe the weakest one. Still a good one though. 9/10

10) Death Toll- Another political song. Good back up vox by Rick and Jake. Nice drums by Meggers. Greatg lyrics also 10/10

11) Tragedy- The guitar starts out kindof like the one on Made in NYC on Die Hards. A good mid tempo street punk song. I like this one a lot actually. 10/10

12) Brainwashed- Another good song. not really political but just another good fast song. 9/10

13) Sounds from the Streets- More of a mid tempo songs but jorges vocals bring this one right back up. 10/10

14)We DOn't Need You- Starts out slower and then just gets as fierce as the other songs. Great song a great way to close out the album. 10/10

I have seen these guys three times and they only get better so next time their in town go see them. They put on the most fierce show in Punk Rock it won't dissapoint you. UP THE PUNX OI OI OI

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Change of Pace, June 5, 2004

This best thing about this album is there are no songs with the word "punk" in the title ("Up the Punks" "For the Punks" "Proud to be Punk" "Punk Rock" "Punks Unite" We get the f**king picture).

Anyway, this album is a great breath of fresh air from this band. Going for a more political side with the songs "Criminal Class" and "Unknown Soldier" that become some of their greatest songs.

A few problems with this record. Though the songs are more composed and the lyrics are of a more wider range, The Casualties still have flaws. Their singer Jorge is still a screaming jackass and their lyrics are still not very well formed. They still have a long way until they get to the talent that the Virus, Unseen, Lower Class Brats and other street punk bands have.

Still, for the Casualties, this is a great achievement. It's like Guttermouth meets The Unseen (I know I'm the only one who thinks that.) I would not highly recommend this, but if you're looking to buy something by The Casualties buy this!

5.0 out of 5 stars F*ck the pretty boys, August 18, 2004
This review is from: On the Front Line (Audio CD)
Some of the most common complaints against The Casualties is that they only sing about being drunk and punk, and that they are too into the fashion side of things. Well, while I certainly had no problem with their music or image before, this CD really cannot be criticised for those same reasons. Without losing any of their energy or anger, they have put out a CD that moves into deeper territory than their others.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is still The Casualties we all know and love (if we have any taste in music that is), they just focus more on class warfare and even politics more than before. Without being knee jerk liberals, they speak out against war and political corruption. But in the end, its all about having fun in a world full of enemies, including those who call themselves "punk" but listen to a bunch of whiney rich kids who sometimes like to copy the fashion of The Casualties without copying the attitude or even bothering to be on an independent label.

I could go into each song, but I think you can listen to the samples and know what you are getting. Lots of shouting, angry sounding but more insightful lyrics than before, and repitition of three cords at very rapid speed. I shouldn't have to justify why I like it, people who dislike have to prove why THEY don't and saying "this isn't punk... I can't understand the words" is not legitimate... I saw people like you at Warped Tour, and I want you to run away so I don't my ass with your Good Charlotte shirts because I think that just might make you cry... then again, keep talking smack about The Casualties, and then sniffle your way out of punk rock so I can enjoy On the Front Line without your bitching

5.0 out of 5 stars unite the punk army!!!!!, May 8, 2004

After the great success of "Die Hards", New York's loudest noise since the "Ramones", The Casualties "On the front line" inspires great punk anthems like "Tomorrow Belongs To Us", which is a great song and I love it. If you love punk music, this is a definite must for you. This album is great for rebellious moods against the government. These songs are great to relate too if you hate the government like me, and also corporate leaders. This album isn't good if you are in a depressing mood, or just don't feel well, this album is for when you are in the partying mood. Like if you just want to create anarchy. If you looking for something inspirational, you wont find it here.

Now for the enhanced cd, the enhanced cd has a photo gallery of the Casualties in concert, and just being casual. This enhanced disc also includes link into websites about the casualties. This enhanced disc also includes 3 videos from the band!! The videos are "Victims", "Get off my back", and the commercial for the Casualties DVD!

That's about it for this record. If you love hardcore thrash punk music, this is for you. But if you are looking for something soft center, nothing here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great street punk, June 4, 2005
This review is from: On the Front Line (Audio CD)
These guys arents sellout poser punks. If you notice this cd has about 25 reviews on it. Good charolotte im guessing has about 300. This is unfriendly to most people because of the vocals. American idiot fans hate screaming vocals. These guys know what punk is about. Dont critisize them for how they look, who are you to judge them. All i know is that this is the first band in awhile to remind me of the 80s hardcore scene. These guys are not rich, they play on warped tour because they rock live, and they belive in spreading the scene, which is something no one should critizes. Im at a delema, because it seems that there are casualties fans that are stupid kids who think there all that and so punk. But I know as a fan of punk that casualties are incredible and they are definatly not posers. I wish people would relize that its not the hair and the studded jackets that make the casualties punk, its the attitude. That brings me back to the actual album. The lyrics are miles ahead of any other of their albums. all the lyrics are working class ideal, or comentary on the iraq war. And some of it is actually againts punks who think there so cool with all of there drugs and "punk" ideals. As for Jorge, he continues to be my favorite vocalist in punk. and with better lyrics this could be the casualties best yet. This album is truly a step up from die hards, which was there worst album, because on old casualties albums it was all about the punks as a community and die hards is to much about how they are hardcore PUNX OI OI OI. Well the earlier wons were like PUNX UNITE OI OI OI, which is better. But this has excellent lyrics. Very polictical working class ideals. as for the bass, awsome. By no means a matt freeman (bassist of rancid, best bassist in the world, check out maxwell murder on and out come the wolves!!) but its a diffrent style, ricks is agressive speed picking, and matts is insane technicality. But the bass on Tragedy is awsome, and there is great bass in the intro to brainwash. The guitar is okay. There is some kinda cool guitar solos, nothing to special, but it is a very clean sound and it is much better than the casualties early albums (jake even said he could only strum down on ther first albums). I actually really like the riffs. And as i said before Jorge's got the best vox in punk. and for being sold at best buy, well i didnt see it there, but if it is, well these guys are poor and they need cash. And they dont have totall control of all the locations of where there music is being sold. so to the stupid kids, wise up and relize that punk has nothing to do with your hair, thats just a statement of individuality. and the haters, you obviosly dont like punk to much, so dont dis a style you dont even like in the first place. and keep on rocking casualties.

4.0 out of 5 stars You so called punks wake up!, February 11, 2005

I have read some of the reviews of this album and i'm quite disapointed in alot of what i've read. Everyone seems to consider themselves punk for whatever reason just because you listened or have purchased a Dead Kennedys or Dead Boys cd doesn't consider you a punk. Congradulations on your purchase though. Punk is an attitude and a way of life clashing against the problems of the world though song and action, hey the Sex Pistols started because of that. Punk itself as far a music is conserned is not limited to a specific sound or style but a varity of sounds and styles. I have always liked the music I have heard from the casualties because alot of it was raw with alot of aggression and this cd complies with that. One last thing what the hell is fashion punk. Just because they have mohawks and dress bad we have to make up catagories to throw them in just to say there not true punk there fashion... come on get serious, leave them look how they want to... Punks not dead just posers killing the scene!

5.0 out of 5 stars This IS real punk! Blink 182, MXPX, and Green Day are posers, July 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: On the Front Line (Audio CD)
Here is a quote from some poser who reviewed this "...mxpx,blink 182,and green day r real punk, not this s**tty s**t!!! this crap is not punk! punk is dead! if you like punk, u suck just like the bands and their musick! go to the new age of punk rock, or got to..HELL!!!" I'm a real punk, so i know what punk is, and MXPX, Blink 182, and Green Day is not it! Those bands are posers, and if you think they are punk and the Casualties aren't you must be a poser yourself! This is real street punk, and one thing i noticed is that Blink 182 have ripped this band off, they took the sound of the Casualties' Punk Rock Love, and made their first album(Cheshire Cat) from it. Street punk won't go away, so shut up posers!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Just like older Casualties, with a little extra, July 6, 2006
By
S (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: On the Front Line (Audio CD)
This is the release that put The Casualties on the map. Well, sort of. It didn't exactly go gold but it certainly helped make them much more popular than they ever were before. While its similiar to older Casualties' releases in that its fast hardcore/punk it also has much better production and the musicianship is also better though still far from perfect. The lyrics have also changed with fewer generic songs about how they are punks, love to drink and party ect. ect. and more songs that deal with political issues, the media, and war. Unknown Soldier is one of these tracks and is also one of the best on the album. Its lyrics about a soldier who dies in combat possess an anti-war message without being too preachy while the series of "whoa"'s throughtout it make it somewhat of an anthem. Sounds From the Streets has a catchy chorus that will get stuck in your head while Static Feedback and Noise lets everyone know how the Casualties feel about the state of music today. Other stand out songs are the title track and Death Toll, both of which feature plenty of gang vocals and those generic but oh so enjoyable punk riffs.Tragedy isn't quite as hard as the rest of the album but its another catchy song with lots of "whoa"s.

If you like older Casualties or are a fan of hard music in general you should like this too. And as long as you can ignore the obnoxious Hot Topic addicted new fans they've picked up thanks to their popularity its also more than worth it to see them live.

4.0 out of 5 stars To the person below., February 1, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: On the Front Line (Audio CD)
If this was an older Casualties release, I would agree 100 percent. I don't think you've heard this one. It's a pretty good album, and it's lyrics aren't about beating people up and getting drunk like all their old stuff. They've changed, and they've changed for the better. This album has some ANTI VIOLENCE and ANTI WAR messages in it. No, it isn't a great album, but it is definately way better than that "We're all drunk punks" garbage they were recording before. Now, I actually have respect for them. I really hope their next album is like this, and that they never go back to talking about getting drunk and fighting again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best release to date., January 16, 2005
This review is from: On the Front Line (Audio CD)
This isn't a great punk record by any stretch of the imagine, but it's a hell of a lot better than the earlier crap they put out. Woo hoo! Yeah let's go beat up hippies and see who has the longest spikes and most patches and studs! At least this music has a point, even if the things they are saying have been said before by better bands. It's a pretty good cd, but if you're looking for REAL punkrock, not fashion punk or gutter punk, pick up The Germs, Iggy Pop, or Reagan Youth.
