This review is from: On the Front Lines: The Experience of War through the Eyes of the Allied Soldiers in World War II (Paperback)
This is one of the best books ever written on the experience of the common soldier in World War II (or of any war). Ellis shows remarkable range in examining the reaction of Allied soldiers in WW II (in Africa, Europe, and Asia) to the experience and stress of combat and war. There is not a false note in this book. Thorough, moving, insightful, and complete.

The best in its subject area that I have read and comparable in impact with Keegan's Face Of Battle.
