I looked at all the Mexican Train games available before I purchased this product. I wanted the most "deluxe" looking set out there. Save yourself hours of research. "This is the one"... It is one of the more expensive versions but I am an adult and wanted something nice to look at with great features like metal trains, nice packaging container. (No others I reviewed came in wood box)and nice colored dot tiles. However, I did not give it a five rating but a four for durablity. IF you are just looking for a Mexican Train set for the kids get one in a tin can not a wood box. Once they get older up grade them with this one...A keeper for many years to come. Hope this helps you!!! Best from Arizona Sandra

This wonderful 'train' game is designed to entertain and engage.
It invokes fun, laughter, and bonding memories.
The game comes in an attractive and very well made two tone solid wood box,
that is felt lined inside.
The 'lid' sides open and shut from the right side,
traveling on the incised 'rabbit' on the top edge of the box.

The contents are of excellent quality, and are:
1. One solid wood central hub station,
2. Eight cast metal trains, 2 golden, 2 silver, 2 antigue brass,
2 antique nickle in appearance. The last two tones are difficult to tell apart.
3. Nintey-one tournament style double twelve color dot dominoe tiles,
4. Two score pads, and instrustions.
The over all size of the storage box is aprox 10" x 12" x 2 3/4" deep,
and weighs a 'hearty' 6 lb.

The object of the game is for each player to use up all their tiles by playing them
onto one or more chains (or trains) leading out of the central hub station.
Two people can play, and no more then eight.
The usual time with eight players is 1 1/2 hours.
The suggested age for this game is eight years and up.

I suggest this is the perfect game for many occasions.
Family, friends, social gatherings, game night, or a gift.
This game is loads of fun, and is perfect for any gathering.

This delightful game is the most luxurious set available.
It is strong yet elegant, and it's classic rich look makes this set a great display item.
There will likely be some scuffs from use, but if reasonably taken care of,
this set should last a lifetime.

From University Games Corporation, San Francisco, Calf. in 2010.
But made in China.

The item I received was almost nothing like what is pictured. The top of the box is not wood, but particle board with a cardboard label poorly glued to the top. The inside of the box has felt, but it doesn't line the entire bottom, the sides are covered in pools of glue. The game's center piece also looks nothing like what is pictured, it looked poorly cut and had unfinished edges, and was flat. I returned this item because the quality was just way too low compared to what they are advertising, seems like a bait and switch to me.

We learned to play Mexican Dominoes with friends in our community, so I ordered this set to play privately in our home. We were thrilled with the set, and liked the instructions which were different than the way we played the game at the clubhouse. However, my partner noticed one very badly marred tile (the 7/3) which was not only discolored on the clear side but rough to the touch -- a manufacturing problem. He then went through the tiles one by one and found another marred tile (7/9)and one other that was less noticeable, but nevertheless not repairable by us (10/4). Today, I sent an email to the company explaining the problem and requesting three (3) replacement tiles. We cannot play this game with friends -- it's a bit like having three (3) marked cards! We are awaiting a reply from the company. If satisfactory, we will revise our review. This is a great game. We just don't want to play it with any marred tiles, and, at this price, there shouldn't be.

We decided to buy our own domino set after playing this game every day on vacation with relatives. After much research we realized to get a good set we would have to spend some money. This set looked like the best quality of what was available for less then $50.00. The dominoes are of good quality, the trains are classy and the wooden hub is nice. The only drawback with the set is the quality control on the box. I had to re-glue the top of the box together because it fell apart when I slid it open.

Mexican Trains is a great game, but I am very disappointed in this product. The wooden box and the dominoes had a strong repellent smell. I believe it was formaldehyde, since there was a stamp on the box saying it met certain formaldehyde requirements. The dominoes themselves were of very poor quality. There were many paint smears (where the dots were painted.) The paint colors were extremely drab. And one domino had a rough unfinished surface front and back. The trains were OK, although a little dull in color.

The only thing I liked was the train station, which was really quite nice.

All in all, a waste of money. The only things I kept were the train station and instructions for the game. I ordered much nicer dominoes elsewhere, and also bought brightly colored trains elsewhere.

I am surprised Amazon continues to represent this vendor.
