Book Description

P and upWhat Makes Us Southerners
Close your eyes, and you can almost feel the rocking of the chair as you listen. Kathryn Tucker Windham's gentle Southern accent winds its way through these childhood and adult recollections, while her traditional wisdom and sharp sense of humor spin the spell she casts like a blanket over her listeners. Exploring the idea that being with and understanding your family is perhaps the most important lesson of all, Ms. Windham takes us out to her front porch in the morning, to the little Methodist ....

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile

Kathryn Tucker Windham tells tales of her hometown of Thomasville, Alabama, from the time before WWII. Her Southern accent is REAL--soft, melodious, and easy on the ear. These stories, which some may call quaint, are those of life in most any small town, with its everyday cast of characters and events, and will strike a chord with those who have experienced this lifestyle. Windham's pace is that of a nice, comfortable rock. Occasionally, there are sound effects between the stories that add to the "small-town" atmosphere. If you like old family stories, buy it! Buy all of Kathryn Tucker Windham. Each CD has different stories and all are very good. When she comes on AL Public Radio, it is hush - hush time! You listen very carefully to every word. You laugh at her tales of being young and wish you had recorded your own story telling!
