AVAIL at their finest!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Front Porch Stories (Audio CD)
12 new songs from the leaders of the Southeast punk scene. Whether you like hardcore or melodic punk, AVAIL is one of the most relevant bands of our time. They have a unique sound that seems to blend Bad Brains and Fugazi and they do it with smart lyrics. This is the most explosive live band in the entire independent music scene, so you gotta get the recorded material to enjoy the show! "Front Porch Stories" is a classic sounding AVAIL record and a wothwhile record to check out. Very rockin!

2002's Front Porch Stories is the sixth studio album from Richmond, VA melodic hardcore/punk institution Avail. I'll be the first to admit that hardcore has never been my thing, but Avail is one of those bands that's impossible to resist. Part of that is their incredible focus on melody (a major draw for fans of Social Distortion and Bad Religion), but the band also had a lot more to offer lyrically than typical genre posturing. When I hear an album like Front Porch Stories it's obvious the band puts a lot of thought (and a lot of heart) into the songs. You're going to rock out to the album, but you're going to think about the songs and what they mean as well, and that's a pretty rare thing.Front Porch Stories ended up being Avail's final album (so far, at least). I'd love it if they came back for another album, but if this is the end, at least they went out on a high note. It's a fantastic album, and one that just about any fan of melodic hardcore and punk rock ought to hear.

Another excellent album from the east coast punk band we all know as Avail. This album is the 5th from Avail that I have added to my collection and it impressed me as much or more than "4am friday" and "Over the James". As per their usual standards, the Lyrics are strong and thought prevoking and the Band plays their instruments with an orginization not often found in punk bands. This is a CD that all people will enjoy, although they may enjoy it for different reasons than I did. Everyone, go out and BUY this CD NOW.
