5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!
I was contemplating buying a FrontPage 98 book and there are many from which to choose. Then I read a review from a disatisfied reviewer. Well, I bought the book anyway. My needs and the needs of the disatisfied reviewer were very different. This book meets my needs "to a T". No, it dosen't cover advanced topics to every extent but it does provide a good...

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK
This book is ONLY helpful if you have never used FrontPage before. It offers very poor examples of advanced techniques such as DB queries and FrontPage server configuration. You would do just as well with a "dummies" book. This book is hardly a bunch of cliff notes, let alone a bible. As you could probably guess...I was extremely dissapointed. Buy a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!, July 26, 1999

I was contemplating buying a FrontPage 98 book and there are many from which to choose. Then I read a review from a disatisfied reviewer. Well, I bought the book anyway. My needs and the needs of the disatisfied reviewer were very different. This book meets my needs "to a T". No, it dosen't cover advanced topics to every extent but it does provide a good basis to get started and mention is made regarding places to get additional information for very specific needs. I'm glad that I choose to buy this reference manual. It answers the basic questions and even goes further to explain a lot of things that I didn't learn in my FrontPage 98 class that cost many times more. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to get started or to polish their existing web page.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than most, but lacking advanced tips, September 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: FrontPage® 98 Bible (Paperback)
I got this book because it had advanced info on integrating MS Access databases into web sites. In fact, after spending days with other books, I figured out how to insert the database within one hour, and it worked perfectly. No other book even came close for that task.

Now that I know how to build the database interactivity, I was hoping for more advanced tips, but unfortunately the book seems to stop after that. Of course, the book covers all the basics for most users, but is actually more easy to read than the other 4 books I tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive documentation and practical examples., June 2, 1999

Impressive documentation and practical examples account for this book's high ratings. I especially admire Chapter 17's delivery on Database Connectivity. It was just what was needed to get our project off the ground.

1.0 out of 5 stars FP 98 Bible is a DON'T BUY, January 9, 2000
By
This review is from: FrontPage® 98 Bible (Paperback)
Attracted by satisfaction with MS Access Bible, I innocently plunked down for this FP 98 travesty. As an innocent student you labor trusting in the author's authority. You tear your hair, you weep and moan.. and lo. This one is frought with errors that will drive you nuts. After suffering through most of this careless piece of trash, on page 429 the author's botched code for ASP finally got to me. Fortunately, I paid full price at retail and promises to give me a store credit. Don't buy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, December 4, 1999

This review is from: FrontPage® 98 Bible (Paperback)
I think this is a really good book for folks who are new to Front Page. I had never used it and once I got the book, I was up and running within a few days. Highly reccommended for new and novice users. The only down side is that sometimes it skipped steps. I had to noodle around to get through one or two things but overall I feel it is well worth the money.

This book is well put together. I am sure as the rest of you know that the book that comes with Frontppage 98 is .....well........ an hard to follow at best. I was able to scan through Frontpage Bible an have pages up an going for my website in just a few hours.

I would call this book for starts to mid range people......someone that really already knows how to do HTML. ect would be board with this book VERY fast.

But everything or just about everything is covered in this book. Pick it up if you are having a hard time with Frontpage 98.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is the best!, May 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: FrontPage® 98 Bible (Paperback)
FrontPage98 Bible has everything you wanted to know about FrontPage 98 and then some! Not only does it cover FrontPage 98, it also touches on CGI programming, database connectivity, discussion forums etc. This is one book that will be indespensible from when you first start learning FrontPage, right through to advanced web page design.

This review is from: FrontPage® 98 Bible (Paperback)
This book is Phat with a P, I read it and I still use it to publish great websites and this is by far the best HTML Resource book I have ever read. It gives quick instructions on what info i may need and everything is easy to find and very informative. I recommend this book to anyone who is advanced or still a beginner with the HTML web publishing language.

2.0 out of 5 stars A basic frontpage book, lacking examples and depth., March 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: FrontPage® 98 Bible (Paperback)
I bought this book because I expected it to be a true bible written about Frontpage 98. However, after reading this book I have found that it is more of a listing of the functions that frontpage contains. Most of the topics covered do not contain examples leaving the reader to sit down with frontpage and figure out what is really going on. Take for example the the chapter covering Style Sheets. This book explains the components of the style sheets but rarely has an expample of how the explanetion applies to creating style sheets or what, when, or why they would be used in a given situation. Explanations are usualy brief and the visual examples do not show the reader anything except how to access the dialog boxes to change values. I can get more specific help from the help file in frontpage then I can from this book. I would recommend this book to someone just starting out developing web pages in Frontpage, but I consider it very weak as a specific reference tool which is what the word "Bible" implies in the title of this book.
