Frontier A Goin' Good!, December 7, 2002
This review is from: Frontier a Go Go (Audio CD)
Singer/guitarist/writer Freddie Krc returns with a strong album, described by a friend of mine as having a "Long Ryders fronted by Edgar Winter" sound. The band includes Bradley Kopp on lead guitar, "Waco" Jack McVey on drums and Spirit/Jo Jo Gunne/Firefall/Heart veteran Mark Andes on bass; these guys are very tight and excellent players. Guest musicians include Rusty Young, Reese Wynans and memorable backing vocals by Lorrie Singer, among others.
All save one of the 12 songs are Krc originals, leading off with the spirited 'Austin Texas Blues' and also featuring a touching tribute to Jefferson Airplane/Moby Grape legend Skip Spence, 'Child Of The Universe'.
Freddie has a tasteful and diverse style of songwriting, ranging from blues to ballads to folk tinged psychedelia. Perfect traveling tunes for you fans of alt.country and the Austin music scene in general. The album has impressed all who've heard it so far, and I'm sure it'll get you tapping your toes also. Highly recommended!
