Product Description

The nutty flavor of flaxseeds combined with their large content of omega-3 fatty acids makes them a popular addition to diets. While whole flaxseeds feature a soft crunch, the nutrients in ground seeds are more easily absorbed. Botanical name: Linum usitatissimum L. These seeds have a high oil content, and although the oil is relatively stable while the seed is intact, refrigeration is recommended to slow the oxidation process and prolong the life of the seed. Raw flax (also known as linseed) seeds contain a cyanogenic glycoside which is toxic if consumed in large quantities (20-30 tablespoons per day). The cyanogenic glycosides are volatile and will readily dissipate when flax is cooked. Flavor - bland, slightly green-grassy taste. Non-irradiated.

My husband found out he has Multiple Myeloma and needs chemotherapy treatments. In the hospital they made small pillows filled with flaxseed. They are about 5"x7" with a small pillowcase to cover them. You heat them for 30 seconds in microwave or a little longer if its not hot enough. You place it wherever it feels good and it stays warm for quite a while. We use them daily and he loves them. Just can't burn them or they smell awful. You can then wash the little pillowcases when needed. So they are good for something besides eating them. I use the ground up ones for my bread. I thought this would be helpful for other cancer patients out there or someone that needs warmth without a hot water bottle. I purchased this item on Amazon.com and this is the link to the product. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001VNEIO4/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title

5.0 out of 5 stars Egg replacement August 30, 2010

I don't eat eggs anymore. This is a great replacement for baked goods needing eggs. You have to work out the amount needed for each recipe. I grind them in a coffee grinder, then add water, then let it sit for a few minutes. One tablespoon of flax seed to three tablespoons of water equals about one egg. Looks kind of funky. If you use to much you will tasted the flax seed. Not a bad taste, just differant. When you get the amout right, no extra taste.

Best quality I've purchased yet. Very good value. I'm placing another order today. I particularly like the fact that it comes in three smaller sealed bags to keep it fresh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frontier Flax seed April 17, 2011

Very satisfied with the Flax seed. We were looking for whole flax seed because once it is ground it should be kept in the freezer to keep it fresh. This worked out very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars great packaging March 24, 2012

packaged nicely for freshness, seeds were fresh and delicious for allowing them to sit whole in water to drink the gel that forms for good intestinal health; they are great added whole to your bread baking. sweet or savory! Ground in your coffee grinder they are great sprinkled on hot cereal or in pancake mix or in applesauce, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good December 24, 2012

I didn't purchase these to eat but actually to make a microwaveable heat pack to help with my chronic pain. I'm satisfied with my purchase and saved me a bit of money but think this is one of those things that ended up being better in principal then in reality

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Flax seed I've tried - a bit more expensive also November 25, 2012
By TLinn

Comes in very well sealed 1 lb packages. These are the darker brown flax seed which I strongly prefer - better flavor, nice texture when coarsely ground, and they do not turn my cereal to slime like the golden flax seed.

FYI - ground seeds should be eaten quickly as thbeneficialal oils start to break down or oxidize.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleased with product August 13, 2012

I am very pleased with my purchase. Seems to be high quality and is much cheaper than the local health food store. Seeds are packed in light blocking packaging, keeping the unopened ones fresh. Further, Amazon must have known that flax seeds are heat sensitive, and directed the delivery person not to leave them out in the Texas heat. I definitely appreciate that!
