my neighbor came home the other day and was surprised to find a stranger in her house burglarizing it. She had noticed a vehicle parked in front of her house and down a spell but didnt think anything of it at the time. Because we live in a rural area, she happened to have a can of this particular bear mace in her purse and it was the first thing that she reached for . She sprayed THE ENTIRE CAN on this guy and he hightaikled it to his car and took off. Apparently the fumes overcame him as he waqs fleeing because he smashed into someone and when the police arrived realized that it was the same guy. The article was in the local newspaper. Strangely, when I tried to look up the article I came across this update [...] puts a whole new spin on it ...turns out the "burglar' is a cop !! Gotta love California !!

While I haven't actually used the product, I can say that it is easy to carry on your belt and that the trigger mechanism/safety seems to be effective for avoiding accidental deployment while being easy to use when needed. It's also effective for several years, so I don't have to worry about buying a replacement for another 3 years or so.

As described. Did not need to use, but was confident that it would work. was at yellowstone np, rangers there recommended this brand.

I bought this bear repellent to use as protection. Let me tell you this, it beats all the bear spray out there on amazon.
Cheap pricing compared to others. Size is medium-big. Not able to put in ur pocket but maybe in a backpack. I tested it by
spraying at a fence about 10 feet away, and it sprays like a fire extinguisher !!! Wide burst but strong burst. I came back 2 minutes later to
the fence and i was coughing and my nosed burn soo bad, i can see why its called bear repellent.. If a crowd or a group were attacking or trying to, this
would probably be one of the best protection to use. I recommend buying this product because of the pricing and the well making of it.

I purchased this to have on our trip to Yellowstone N.P.. While we didn't run across any grizzlies on our hikes it was a comfort to know that we had a non-lethal deterrent option other than rocks and pointy sticks. For that added confidence alone I give this product 5 stars. People considering purchasing this spray should also know that the brand name "Frontiersman" is actually made by one of the major Law Enforcement pepper spray manufacturers SABRE. It's on the label. I've worked in the Law Enforcement marketing industry for over ten years and know that SABRE is a trusted company. Buy it from amazon and save a bunch -- The two options I found in the park gift store were priced at $59 and $69 dollars.

On a special note: While we were in Yellowstone the body of a 60 year old hiker was found with traces of a grizzly bear "encounter". At this point it is not known if the bear actually killed the hiker or just came across him after he died but so far no bear spray has been found on or near his body. See the August 27, 2011 Yellowstone press release on their web page. Whoops, just checked again. From today's press release (August 29, 2011): "Results from an autopsy conducted Sunday afternoon concluded that Wallace died as a result of traumatic injuries from a bear attack."

One reviewer below makes a very valid point about TSA travel restrictions. Be aware that this cannot be transported via airplane either in your carry on or your checked luggage. Better to pack your .44 if you are flying.

I hope I won't ever be able to come back to edit my review to add how this product actually works as a deterrent! I based my 5 stars on the good price for this product on Amazon and on the clear instructions that came with it. I feel like I could use it quickly if I had to. The hip holster is a good addition, to keep it very close if you're hiking in a very active bear area, though it is flimsier than the holster that came with a previous product we'd purchased 5 years ago.

This is our second bear spray. We hiked several times (Yellowstone and Glacier NPs) with the first one and always hoped we'd never need it. We saw A LOT of very fresh bear scat in Glacier and were always glad to have the spray. It goes against my nature to buy something that'll expire in a few years that you're not very likely to ever need, but in the case of bear spray the few dollars you save could prevent you from saving your life or the life of a family member.

I bought this recently for a planned trip to Yellowstone and Glacier. I tested the spray and it seems to fire nicely. I just hope I never actually have to use it. The belt attachment is nice, making it easy to carry.

While I haven't had a chance to use this in an actual bear encounter, the product seems to be a quality one. The can design makes for easy one-hand operation. The safety clip is secure while also allowing easy removal with only your thumb. The glow in the dark feature is a nice bonus. The holster is nothing fancy but it is sturdy and keeps the bottle secure and close if you ever needed to use it. The only downside is the holster only offers the belt loop option, while others on the market offer an additional across the chest option, but this one is sufficient for me.

Good size can. Decent holster, works both right and left. Stretch retention system holds can firmly yet deploys flawlessly. Glow-in-the-dark safety clip really does glow brightly and is deactivated easily. Great for bears or multiple attackers.

I haven't had to use it, but this was a good price for something hopefully I never have to use. I like the holster too, it's not bulky at all.
