BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Welcome to FRONTRUNNERS Internal Medicine Q&A Review, designed to prepare you for the INTERNAL MEDICINE CERT & RECERT EXAMS as well as the medicine and subspecialty components of the USMLE Steps 2 & 3. Students who are preparing for the USMLE and are thinking about a residency in medicine as well as current medicine residents will ALSO be way ahead of the game when it comes time to sit for their medicine boards (yes, there's actually one more exam after step 3 (!) and it's the all important one that makes you "board certified"). This book is an excellent companion to the Frontrunners Internal Medicine Board Review Syllabus 2009, which remains the Core Review for the Frontrunners Board Review courses that are held each year. While designed with the boards in mind, these resources are nonetheless outstanding study aids for medical students, residents, and practicing internists who simply want the best no nonsense and most realistic Q&A review of internal medicine in all of its subspecialties. And for those who are simply looking to expand their fund of knowledge in medicine, this back is without compare, and is ideal for health care professionals at all levels, including nursing practitioners and physician assistants. If you're a mnemonics fan (and who isn't?) and you're prepping for the boards, then you'll definitely want to check out TURBO MNEMONICS FOR THE BOARDS. See the "Quick Order Form" at the end of this book. With over 400 memory aids to the most commonly asked, it can only turbo boost your performance! To make our board review course progressively stronger but has helped physicians pass this at times seemingly impossible hurdle called the boards. This critical board review resource is chock full of over 1,300 internal medicine board review questions to maximally prepare you. Equally important, this review will prepare you for the "all except ", "next best step", and multiple choice type questions and answers that are now customary on the exams. While this Q&A review is an excellent companion to the Frontrunners Syllabus, the two need not be used together. These Frontrunners "warm up exercises" or PRACTICE QUESTIONS will prepare you well for the essential material that you can expect. In our efforts to incorporate as much of this key material as possible into your review in as succinct a manner as possible, you will find explanations to questions where explanations are due, and not simply to "just fill space". The explanations will not serve to simply reiterate the entire core of the syllabus, but rather to shed light as needed. The length of the questions has been abbreviated to allow you to maximize your content exposure in as little time as possible. This book has also been popular in helping physicians make "connections" or concept links, so that "if you see this in the question, look for this in the answer." The matching style questions are especially great for this building these links in your mind. The tighter those links in your mind, the better you'll performance will be for the MCQs.

HMOs are requiring that their PCPs be board certified, or, at the very least, board eligible to come on board and stay on board In fact, the terms "board certified" and "board eligible" are increasingly becoming an integral part of HMO contracts and renewal criteria. Being board certified, therefore, is no longer a luxury. To some physicians, it's more than just placating the HMOs or even maintaining one's practice. It's about personal challenge; it's about being able to call oneself a "board certified internist"; but even more simply, it's about winning! We want you to win. However you plan to use this book, our greatest hope is that we help you achieve your goals and make your life, dare we say, a little easier?

With best wishes for you,

Bradley D Mittman, MD

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly realistic!, February 21, 2001
I liked this question and answer review alot. I own some of the other Q&A reviews of medicine, like Harrison's and Cecil's, but they've disappointed me over and over when it came time for the exam. I know that questions are the key to passing these types of exams. So I got hold of this book, and I had faith in it from the start because the style of questions is so realistic. On my exam, for example, I know there are always alot of "all except" type questions, and "next best step" type questions, and a bunch of matching. This book reflected that. Even more crucial, though, was that this Q&A review of medicine for the boards most closely approximated the CONTENT of the boards, and I should know. I had to take the exam 7 times!! So it was a real breath of fresh air to finally find a book like this. There's plenty of questions, over 1200 actually, and I hit them all before going into my exam, which was amazingly easy for once. So, I passed the exam, and recommended it some colleagues who are foreign medical grads who are also trying to pass their boards, and all of them went on to pass their exam as well, and continue to thank me every time I see them in the hospital. It's also got a really good index in the back, and I find myself constantly referring to it to look up the most poignant points on certain diseases in my patients, even though the exam is behind me at last. So, for sure, I would say I definitely LOVED this Q&A book because it was the only one that did the job, and I'm glad to have that exam over with. I can finally move on with my life!! 5.0 out of 5 stars I'M DEFINITELY RECOMMENDING..., April 22, 2002
I got a hold of the Frontrunners' Q&A review before my recert exam in Internal Medicine after my friend recommended it. I'm glad he did because I wasn't quite sure the best way to go. The Q&A in this book were very realistic and I alot of the same questions when I sat for my exam. Relative to the MKSAP and other Q&A sources I'd come across, this one gave me the chance to cover ALOT more questions in the same amount of time because the Q&A were highly representative in subject matter, yet much more succinct. Between my busy practice, rounds, and coming home to kids, etc, etc, I really needed something that would give me the highest yield for the study time I put in. So, I'd highly recommmend the book, and I hope my feedback helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT #####, May 28, 2002
I thought the Q&A were right on target from both a content point of view as well as actual Q&A format for my internal medicine boards, although my friend says alot of people are using it for their step 3 as well. I saw tons of Q's on the exam that were right out of the book. I went through these Q&A in conjunction with the Frontrunners internal medicine board review syllabus, which had all the core material, and I passed easily. I actually got my copy for FREE when I ordered my syllabus through the publisher (866-MDBOARD). The last time I checked they were still offering this. Their syllabus is outstanding and you definitely gotta have it if you're tyring to pass the medicine boards.
