Book Description

There's nothing pretty about murder.
Meet Toni Diamond, make up artist to middle America. She's got a nose for trouble and a passion for solving mysteries. Imagine Columbo in a lavender suit. She never met a woman who wouldn't look better with a little help from the Lady Bianca line of cosmetics. But don't be fooled by appearances. Underneath the fake diamonds and the big hair is a sharp brain and a keen eye that sees the details as well as the funny side of life. When a Lady Bianca sales rep is murdered at the annual convention in Dallas, Toni is the one who notices things that some people, like sexy Detective Luke Marciano, might easily miss. Only someone who understands as much about how to make appearances deceiving could see into the mind of this killer -- a murderer who wants to give Toni a permanent makeover. Into a dead woman.

At the sales convention, Toni has to deal with her arch rival Nicole Freedman, a woman who would stab Toni in the back if it would get her the coveted top sales award. She's got her own beauty consultants to encourage, her mother who's taken Dolly Parton as her pattern and her patron saint, her daughter Tiffany, who, at sixteen, is mortified by everything her mother does. Including breathing.

In this humorous, cozy mystery, complete with a wily and entertaining amateur female sleuth, a sexy police officer, a murder or two, and a little comedy, a suburban cosmetics sales woman matches wits with a fiendish murderer.

New York Times Bestselling author Lori Foster calls Nancy Warren's writing 'sexy and wonderfully witty.'

    Review

In Frosted Shadow Nancy Warren delivers a rollicking, fun mystery ride filled with murder, mayhem and makeup! -- Wendy Roberts, author of the Ghost Dusters mystery series

Ultimate Concealer, Toni Diamond Mysteries, Book 2: A touch of romance. A large dose of mystery. An even larger dose of fashion sense. And at least one character that you just want to hit on the head in hopes it would knock some sense into him. I've enjoyed both of these books and look forward to more. Jutzie, Top 1000 Amazon Reviewer
Midnight Shimmer, Toni Diamond Mysteries, Book 3  One of the funnest little mysteries that I've read in awhile. Toni is a lot like Jessica Fletcher when she investigates. You can follow the mystery, but it doesn't get explained until the end. There were a lot of angles to this mystery that lead you in several directions. There is no end to the 'possible suspects'. I was unable to guess who did it and was surprised at the outcome. There is a lot of humor and plenty of fun characters to keep you turning the pages until the end. You won't be disappointed with this one. Huntress, Amazon Reviewer

    From the Author

Great news! Midnight Shimmer, Toni Diamond Mysteries Book 3 is now out!

I confess to having two loves when it comes to books. Mystery and romance. I decided to combine the two and see what would happen.

But wait, I have to go back... to a romance writers' conference I attended in Dallas a few years ago. As you can imagine, romance conferences tend to attract a lot of women and very few men. As luck would have it, also booked into this same hotel was a huge make-up organization. And, yep, you guessed it, 99% of them were women also. You could have cut the estrogen in that hotel with a pen, or an eyebrow brush, depending on which conference you were with. As you can imagine, there were hilarious stories of mistaken identity. Makeup ladies trying to give us writers makeovers, writers trying to talk about romance with women who had eye shadow on their minds. I don't know when I thought how much fun I could  have turning this conference into a fictional murder mystery, but the idea took and I finally sat down and wrote Frosted Shadow.

Oddly, back in another career, also in Texas, I met a couple of homicide detectives and, knowing I was a writer, they invited me to go with them to a murder scene. It was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. The body was gone, but everything else was intact.

People often ask writers where we get our ideas. Any self-respecting scribe will tell you that we create worlds and stories in our heads, but there is often an event, a comment overheard, an incident in real life, that begins the wheels of creativity turning. In my case, I suspect those two unrelated experiences -- the conference and the murder scene -- combined to bring about the idea for this book. Which is, of course, entirely fictional. I hope you enjoy it!

In Ultimate Concealer, Toni goes to Vegas, like Vegas needed more glitter! And in Midnight Shimmer, Toni wins a cruise and takes her mom and daughter along for a week of fun in the Caribbean. Naturally, there is nothing relaxing about this cruise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder and makeup, what a pair! January 27, 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition
Grab your lipstick and slide into your stillettos and get ready to join Lady Bianca star salesrep Toni Diamond, makeup adviser turned part time sleuth, in a fun filled, murder prone annual sales convention for the Lady Bianca line of cosmetics in Frosted Shadow. It looks like beauty isn't only skin deep, it can be deadly! But don't get the wrong idea, this is no piece of fluff. Frosted Shadow author Nancy Warren has written a smart, tech savvy, astute character in Toni Diamond! Toni's no simpering southern belle. She's an inquisitive corporate executive who just happens to sell cosmetics, seems that her only problem is that she keeps finding herself around dead bodies. But their makeup is stunning!

This is one of the most fun books I've read in a long time. Pure escapism in the highest form!! Warren knows how to tell a tale and smartly keeps the characters to a minimum, while getting the most "bang" for the buck. OK, I had to say that. I'm happy to say that Frosted Shadow looks to be the first in a series for the well groomed, and whip smart character Toni Diamond! Toni's the hard working, single mom of a teen aged goth-loving daughter who's tendency towards black frustrates the pastel loving Toni. I really enjoyed Toni's Dolly Parton loving mother, she's a fun loving good-old-gal who provides support for Toni and a bit of distraction for the reader. You HAVE to love her.

And then there's the cute and sexy police detective, Luke Marciano who can't quite figure out Toni. Her Lady Bianca sales tactics throw him for a loop, but not for long, He realizes there's a brain behind Toni's perfectly made up face and a heart under her lavender suit. He even acquiesces to trying the cuticle and hand creme Toni gives him. Even if it is in a lavender tube.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and charming December 28, 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a longtime fan of Nancy Warren's books, I wondered what to expect with a contemporary mystery featuring a makeup-selling sleuth. I needn't have worried--with a Warren novel you're always in good hands. I loved Toni Diamond--her smarts, her powers of observation, and her compassion. I liked how the mystery played out, and was entertained by her characters. Can't wait for the next one!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! June 27, 2014
    By Dorothy
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has the right mix of everything. It has mystery, romance, family and more.

The book is well written, flows smoothly, and it is easy to read. I have to say that yu have to start this book with enough time to finish it. You just will be grabbed from page one to the end and not want to put it down. I was up until 2 a.m. finishing this. I just couldn't stop until I hit the end.

The characters are a wonderful mix of many people you would find in real life. The author has a knack of describing them so you understand who they are and where in life they are coming from. . The main character, Toni, is utilized to bring all the characters to light in kindness and compassion.

Toni Diamond is the makeup artist to middle America. She has a nose for trouble and a passion for solving mysteries. Toni has had a hard climb up as a single mother, but she has made it to a high position in Lady Bianca Cosmetics. Toni is smart and has a good eye for details and the funny side of life. When a sales rep is murdered at a convention in Dallas, it is Toni who notices things that others, like sexy Detective Luke Marciano, might miss.

Only someone who understands how appearances might be deceiving can have an eye into this killer. Toni starts snooping and eventually gets death threats from this killer.

The attraction Luke feels for Toni happens almost at the very beginning. He originally thought she was an airhead I think. When he finds out she had a good mind and is actually very wise, his feelings begin to grow.

This is a really great first of the series. I do recommend it highly.

For those who do not like sex scenes, there are 2. I personally did not find them bad. There was not all the step by step type descriptions that some authors put. I don't remember any cuss words either.

I recommend this book for age 18 on up.

I wasn't sure what to expect but kept turning the pages. After a while, I couldn't put it down. I loved the way the characters were presented. The story rolled quickly and I laughed aloud a couple of times. Looking forward to the next Toni Diamond novel. A good, fast read.

    2.0 out of 5 stars BORING July 8, 2014
    By Katie
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
No thanks, this book just wasn't for me. The book went in to more detail about the beauty products/business then it did the actual characters. There were large portions of the book I felt I was being lectured to on how to sell them or wear them etc etc. I've met Avon and Mary Kay women in the past, I don't need the business all spelled out in boring detail. After awhile it's like okay I get it already. I did want to know who committed the murders but I felt no connection to any of the characters, and only read this book when I had absolutely nothing better to do...surf the web, clean, anything else LOL. I always try to finish a book once I start it. If you want every detail about how to sell makeup, and tons of beauty details constantly then you will probably like this. Personally I was hoping there would be more story in the story.

2.0 out of 5 stars So bored... July 5, 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has no flow, and is very badly written. There is a paragraph where every sentence starts with "She." Parts ramble on and on about make up so I ended up skipping a lot. It's not always clear who is talking and because of that it is confusing. I didn't even like the heroine. Thank goodness it was free.
