4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Black Metal... from New England?!, March 22, 2002

This review is from: Frozen Divide (Audio CD)
Since its beginnings, the genre known as Black Metal has been largley associated with Northern Europe... vikings, battleaxes, pillaging; long, cold winters in dark, barren lands. Any of you that listen to this style of music know what I'm talking about. I certainly don't consider myself to be particularly knowledgable concerning black metal, but I do enjoy it... and I was very impressed when I heard this band from the Boston area playing legitimate (to me, anyway) black metal music.
Keeping in step with their Nordic counterparts, the title of the album has the word "Frozen" in it, and anyone who has visited New England in January will know that they have the right to use the word. The music is very fast, dark, and quite melodic. Good use of keyboards throughout; they help enhance the melodic feel of the guitars without overpowering them at all. Despite the band's name, there are no explicit references to the Lord on the CD, and I'm pretty sure they're not a Christian band. The lyrics seem centered around personal hardship and turmoil, and are very poetically written.
For those who enjoy fast black metal, I would highly recommend this CD.

a friend of mine recomended the year of our lord to me and the store only had the ep.i dont usually buy ep's but a black metal band from new england? i had to check it out.i went home and listened to the 22 minute album and honestly i wasnt expecting something this good from a local band.the songs were a little short compared to most black metal but they were short and sic.after listening to the first 3 songs i decided their lp was the next album im gonna buy.it doesnt take norway to produce wicked sic black metal, new england works to its just as barin here.

Sheesh, this EP is a treat! I've been listening to this gem since it's release in '99 and it sounds just as good as it did when I first heard it back then. Definitely under-rated. If you like post-hardcore with Euro-metal influence, treat your ears to some Frozen Divide.

Track 4... just... wow. =)

This in a nutshell is just an amazing work of musician-manship (sp?).
I recommend this to any fans of melodic BM (sans keyboards).
With the introduction of their new drummer hopefully we'll be hearing more from this up and coming band.
oh, and to make things even better for their part, these seemingly unknown new england native's sophmore effort was recording by none other than mr. Kurt Ballou of Converge fame, so I'm pretty sure you'll be hearing more of them to come...
