Awesome! -- Brett Hull

When I first saw Frozen Memories, I was immediately taken by all of the incredible pictures. There are hundreds of them, going way back to the 1800s, all the way up to today. Hockey is such a part of our culture here, and this book has somehow captured it all. It was so fun to read about all of the old teams that played here through the years as well, and being from Roseau, I loved reading about the history of the high school tournament. Just to be able to read about so many of my childhood heroes, and to learn about all of the people that worked so hard, so that guys like myself could make a career out of hockey was incredible. Frozen Memories is about celebrating our past, and getting excited about our future. Ross spent the better part of a year researching, interviewing, and preserving our rich hockey heritage in this book. And for that, we all should be grateful, because the final product is awesome. If you enjoy reading about history, biographies, nosta! lgia, and great, funny stories, then youll love it, because its all here. -- Former Gopher and North Stars Legend, Neal Broten

About the Author

Ross Bernstein is the author of two regionally best-selling Minnesota sports books: "Fifty Years - Fifty Heroes: A Celebration of Minnesota Sports," and Gopher Hockey by the Hockey Gopher. While Fifty Years Fifty Heroes: a Celebration of Minnesota Sports, chronicled the history of the past half-century of Minnesota sports, Gopher Hockey by the Hockey Gopher, was all about the history and heroes of Gopher Hockey from a big, smelly rodents perspective. You see, after a failed attempt to make it as a walk-on to the Gopher hockey team, Ross opted instead to become the team mascot Goldy the Gopher!

More About the Author

Ross Bernstein is the best-selling author of more than 40 sports books and has appeared on thousands of local and national television and radio programs over his career, including CNN, NPR and ESPN, as well as on the covers of the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and USA Today. As a sought after motivational keynote speaker, Ross speaks to corporations and groups around the country about the inspirational legacy of his late friend and mentor, Herb Brooks, the coach of the fabled gold medal winning 1980 "Miracle on Ice" hockey team. Ross, who had actually been working with Brooks on writing a series of motivational/self-help books at the time of his tragic passing in 2003, honors the legacy of his friend and mentor through a program based on the topics of Passions and Legacies entitled: "When it Comes to Team-Building, Leadership & Motivation, Do you Believe in Miracles?" Putting many of the life-lessons and ideologies he learned from the fiery coach into a practical business application, Ross' interactive, entertaining and thought-provoking presentation aims to inspire others to follow their dreams and maybe, just maybe, even create their own miracles. Ross and his wife have one daughter and currently reside in the Twin Cities, MN.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Believe in Miracles, December 12, 1999
This review is from: Frozen Memories: Celebrating a Century of Minnesota Hockey (Hardcover)
Not just for dads or players, this book is a must for every hockey enthusiast in the state of Minnesota and beyond. Between the covers are stories and pictures of hockey legends and heroes alike, from the infancy of the sport to present, including both boys and girls Minnesota State High School champions. The hockey tradition in Minnesota is one of the reasons we get out of bed on frosty bone-chilling mornings to drive our children to the rink for practice, or brave Minnesota blizzards to get to THE GAME. Frozen Moments brings alive the crowd roaring, silver skates slicing frozen water, stick meeting puck in a perfectly snapped shot, whistles blowing, sirens howling, red light flashing and bands blasting. Pros, Olympians, collegians, preps, and city teams alike skate through the pages of this book as their colorful or quiet coaches shout, signal, shake their heads. Elated by victory or crushed by defeat, this is Minnesota hockey. Like the little optimist looking for a pony in a room full of hay, Minnesotans know there's a hockey game out there somewhere. Frozen Memories proves that point, and more. In Minnesota, there's a game out there everywhere-and we love it!

I thought the book was wonderful. I was amazed to find out that Eveleth and Two Harbors played for the first time in 1903. There was a lot of neat facts and some great pictures.
