Grade 4-7-Young readers should find this book fascinating, as Getz describes the discovery, recovery (barely!), and scientific study of this man who died approximately 5,000 years ago. The clear, concise, and interesting text with carefully rendered interpretive illustrations and four full-color photos will answer many youngsters' questions and perhaps stimulate them to pursue some matters in greater depth. However, some dissonance occurs between the somewhat sophisticated vocabulary and the relatively simple sentence structure, but it should not be a major problem for those captivated by the subject.

As smoothly written as Getz's fiction (
Thin Air and
Almost Famous), the book deals with questions designed to keep readers interested till the very last page. It is also well illustrated: full-color photographs and delicate, hazy drawings enhance the mysterious air of the text, and the eerie jacket art will definitely attract browsers. A detailed glossary, a pronunciation guide, and a bibliography are appended.
