3.0 out of 5 stars Not much new
If you are living the frugal lifestyle there isn't much new here. Same old stuff.

Also, the book could use a bit of a light editing thanks to one major boo-boo. There seems to have a mix up when using the word bear in a chapter title. Bare instead of bear was used. I do believed it should have been bear with me. Perhaps I am wrong.

Very good book...

The Frugal Senior: Hundreds Of Ways To Stretch A Dollar by Rich Gray is an innovative and quite "user friendly" guide to understanding and applying the short-cuts, manipulations, and practicalities of working with very little money to obtain personal financial and lifestyle goals. And I thought I knew it all. Just glancing through this book at the library, I decided to buy it. It's taught me more about phone techniques for all the services than the phone book does. The scope of the book is so vast I'll leave it to buyers to discover.

I'm recommending it to quite a few people since it's the best advice book I've seen yet on just about everything, including subjects I didn't know I needed.

Very good book for the novice frugal wannabe. For the rest of us frugal spenders there is nothing new.

3.0 out of 5 stars Handy for New Seniors to Frugality, July 3, 2009
This review is from: The Frugal Senior: Hundreds of Creative Ways to Stretch a Dollar! (The Best Half of Life) (Paperback)
Even though I'm not over 50, there is always some wisdom that can be picked up from those who have gone before. This book isn't so much about personal experiences (which I was kind of bummed about) as it is instead a collection of tips to stretch a dollar

This book would be a great gift for those baby boomers who find themselves in debt and know they have a retirement ahead of them and don't have a clue where to start in cutting down things on their budget. Though many of the tips were familiar to me, I believe this would be a great addition to any library and handy to grab if you new to the idea of frugal living.

Some interesting tips I did glean:
*Raisins that have become hard can be rescued by bring a pot of water to a boil with the raisins in them and letting the water cool, then drain the water and eat."
*Add a little sage to food to cut down on fleas that stick to your pets.

Since tips are not age specific and anyone can start doing them, they did include a chapter in the book that is specific to seniors; relating to discounts, social security and health among others.

And finally there are some handy frugal websites to check out at the end of the book if you want further information. Frankly, though this book has the word senior on it, I think most everyone can benefit from having this book on their shelf as a handy reference for ideas.

You already know all this stuff. Or I hope you do. I sent for this and was happy that Amazon has a liberal return policy.
