Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2-- Two small books that are sure to please youngsters. Although the ``Eyewitness Junior'' series (Knopf) does an excellent job of depicting detailed, close-up views of various objects, this series offers a new dimension; it features brightly painted transparent overlays to let readers experience the magic of an apple ripening, or a larvae turning into a full-grown ladybug. The spare texts follow the illustrations, introducing key vocabulary words by placing them directly under the appropriate item as in a picture dictionary. Additional notes on each page make these : selections appropriate for one-on-one sharing. Simple but accurate introductory presentations with glossy, eye-catching illustrations. --Debra S. 5.0 out of 5 stars HER FAVORITE BOOK!, May 19, 2000
This review is from: Fruit (First Discovery Books) (Hardcover)
This is our first taste of the "First Discovery Book" collection. FRUIT is her favorite book! We read it at least 10 times a day! The age group for this book is actually 4-and up but Hope Elizabeth is nearly 2 and she can't get enough of the clear pages that reveal the inside of the delicious fruit. Get this amazing book and watch your child eat up the pages!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifull pictures and great information., August 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fruit (First Discovery Books) (Hardcover)
My three year old daughter loves this book and has loved it since she was a baby. She used to love just looking at the pictures, but now also likes to have the text read to her. The text is short and to the point so it can be a fairly short read if you don't get so busy discussing the beautiful pictures. A really great non-fiction kid's book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who knew a book about fruit would be my toddler's favorite?, November 28, 2010
This review is from: Fruit (First Discovery Books) (Hardcover)
I bought this book at a used bookstore for my 2 year old, simply because she didn't have any books about fruit and I try to keep the bookshelf varied. Turns out, she loves it. It is one of her very favorites and we read it regularly. (She now points out in the kitchen which fruit has a "hard wrinkled PIT.") I think the wording and crystal clear pictures on a white background grab her attention, and she really loves the plastic see-through pages that you flip over to show the inside of the fruit. Plus, she has actually learned a lot about a healthy food group, understands to avoid eating fruit seeds, and is branching out her vocabulary at the same time.
