A great instructional video. A great beginner to advance. Showed me some tricks I never learnt before. I didn't rate it 5 star because some of the lighting and angle was not that great. Too much reflection on the subject. A great instructor showing detailed works.

I bought this in order to teach myself watermelon carving, which was shown near the end of the DVD. I got a kick out of watching this, because during the first 20 minutes or so, Mr. Duey lacks a script and makes the same motions with his hands over and over (he also repeats himself occasionally). At first it was a little slow, but when the actual carving began it was a lot easier to watch. There's also a pretty funny part where the camera zooms in and out for no apparent reason.Overall, though, Chef Duey gets his point across. He made the carving techniques easy to understand. I got the DVD three weeks ago, and can already do some of it on potatoes. (Watermelons aren't exactly in season.) Mr. Duey is a professional chef, not a cooking show host, but if you are willing to overlook the DVD's few technical errors, he delivers. |
