5.0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite Band!, January 5, 2002

Mestre Ambrósio has been my favorite band ever since I put this CD in the player. I was in a CD store in Brazil, and promtly bought both copies of the disc that they had on hand. Before Amazon offered this disc, I started begging my family in Brazil to ship me copies for me to give my friends as presents. Seeing the CD here will make it easier.
The way this band mixes traditional rhythms with contemporary experience, and the beauty, skill, and energy of the music, makes Mestre Ambrósio the most exciting band that I can think of, IN THE WORLD.
Since you have found your way to this disc on the website, you are interested in some aspect of Brazilian music -- given that, take my recommendation: DON'T MISS THIS BAND. They are not world-famous names like Caetano Veloso or Gilberto Gil, but these young musicians are the legendary musicians of the future.
This CD is amazing, and their new CD, "Terceiro Samba", is equally so.

5.0 out of 5 stars a breathtaking experience!, August 16, 2000

I didn`t know much about them before watching their concert in london, but after seeing it I couldn`t wait to get my hands on the cd.They are simply the most impressive act to come out of the northeast of Brazil in recent times and, believe me, it shows on the cd. the songs cover a wide range of regional styles, up-to-dating them and making your feet tap uncontrolably to the powerful rythym. All tracks have an outstanding efect on the listener but track # 8 has got some trance - like qualities that transports you to another planet and therefore is my favorite. The production is impecable and the charisma of the group shows everywhere. Just buy it and you won`t regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I bet they're amazing live!, September 11, 2002
This review is from: Fua Na Casa De Cabral (Audio CD)
Challenging new music from this youthful band Mangue Beat band out of Recife, Brazil. A truly weird, psychedelic, distorted take on the street samba sound, mixing spacy electric guitars with clattering percussion and other non-rock instruments, such as pife flutes, an accordeon and a violin, and a wild mix of rock and Brazilian styles like forro, maracatu, and baiao. It's kind of like hearing the Quinteto Violado on acid.

I love this CD, but it is a shame they included three song they had already released in their previous album, instead of new material. And its not even a better version of the songs.

I heavily recommend this album to anyone who likes forro.
