Editorial Reviews

With Un Fuego de Sangre Pura (A Fire of Pure Blood), the roots of the cumbia thrive in the music of Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto from Colombia’s violence-torn Caribbean hinterlands. The sounds of long-tubed gaita flutes, unique drums, and maraca stoke the fire of the cumbia and of other regional dances--the fast-paced puya and porro, the cadential gaita corrida, and the bullerengue. Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, the senior statesmen of their tradition, are an animated emblem of Colombian nationhood and a resilient fountainhead for some of Latin America’s favorite dance rhythms. ¡OYE! 32-page booklet with bi-lingual liner notes, 14 tracks, and over an hour of music!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fire of pure blood, November 2, 2006
This review is from: Un Fuego De Sangre Pura (Audio CD)
This is one of the best recordings of pure "roots" music from the colombian caribbean coast. The music and singing is full of the raw emotion of its african, indigenous and spanish heritage.Highly recommended for fans of autochthonous latin american music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack to the Andes!, November 28, 2007

This review is from: Un Fuego De Sangre Pura (Audio CD)
This is pure music.

The instrumentation is so raw... the flutes, drums, and maracas just flow with tribal rhythms that are hypnotic.

I'm very much into Columbian rhythms such as Vallenato and Cumbia but this is much more raw... this is music from the hinterlands and the coast... this is music that has held on to it's tradition and is unchanged from what it was generations back.

I'll be in the Andes in a few weeks time and this will be my soundtrack to it... no doubt about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Folk Music Grammy Winner, November 9, 2007
This review is from: Un Fuego De Sangre Pura (Audio CD)
This album won the 2007 Latin Grammy for Best Folk Album. It was nominated even before it came out to the market. The interpreters are traditional "gaiteros" from the northen part of Colombia, who have pass on their art through generations. It is faitfully a traditional album, full of traditional rhytms, and sounds that only indigenous instruments can reproduce. Beautifull work!
