Fuel Up: Using the Principles of Sports Nutrition to Perform,
By A Customer

This book was extremely informative. Excellent and educational information. I found it very useful being an athlete myself. The programs and tables were easy to use and helped me outline my specific daily eating needs.

Great overview for fitness,

This review is from: Fuel Up : Using the Principles of Sports Nutrition to Train Like a Pro (Paperback)
This is still the best overview on the subject of overall fitness I have seen. It is a little dated, but the science and methodology haven't changed since 2001. The studies that have been published since this book do not contradict his analysis or recommendations. It is an overview, but still a great start. Dr. Sternlicht's level of dedication and program compliance is very difficult for most people to match, but this book puts the rest of us in position to make progress without resorting to dietary fads and exercise misconceptions. There is no doubt that most everyone would benefit from reading this book, and as another reviewer noted, it is relatively short and comprehensive in subject matter, if not in depth, and easy to comprehend. It is not a text book, rather a guide book.

Pretty Good Look at Performance based Nutrition,
By Bobo the College Student (Jungle of Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fuel Up : Using the Principles of Sports Nutrition to Train Like a Pro (Paperback)
This book is an excellent introduction to overall maximization of performance in all aspects (i.e. workouts, age group, training zone, etc). The main draw about this book, obviously as the title indicates, is the incredibly informative material about the correlations between diet and performance. While most of us know that "eating healthy" leads to a sense of well-being and a fulfilling/energetic day, this book breaks down the nuts and bolts of the basics of nutrition. Everything from macronutrients to sports supplements to micronutrients is covered in a fair amount of detail as they relate to performance. While the book presents advice to maximize performance from an athletic standpoint, it also takes into consideration that the average person reading this book does not have their own dietician and 8 hours a day to train...so it also offers some standard down to earth advice to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Keep in mind that the book is only so long and hence only contains moderately-introductory to moderately-detailed information about the topics described above...which means do NOT expect this to be the bible on sports nutrition.
