This review is from: Fuel Gloss Black X-Large Triple Vented Modular Full Face Helmet (Automotive)
This helmet fits my head properly, and it all works correctly. I've been trying on helmets at all my local motorsports dealerships so I knew what size to ultimately buy. All of the ones I tried on looked pretty decent and fit well, without being too large on the outside. Wearing this helmet feels a bit strange, the padding is all kinda shifted up in the helmet so it kinda feels short, but it's not, its supposed to be like that. After determining that it fit correctly, I walked around and looked in a mirror. This thing is HUGE! I thought it felt pretty big when I pulled it out of the box, but I didn't realize it was the width of my shoulders! I'm a pretty big guy too!
I guess it's alright for the price, but beware smaller people, this helmet is going to dwarf you! I can't comment on how well it works in a crash, because I haven't crashed, and I never plan to... but I knocked it a star for being gigantic, otherwise, its a pretty decent helmet with a few neat features for the price.

This review is from: Fuel Black Flag X-Large Triple Vented Modular Helmet (Automotive)
Here's a review with a bit of a switch in the sense that when the helmet arrived and I took it out of its box and black net protective bag, I was amazed at its physical looks! I mean other than the very important DOT safety standards approval and all that, it's really beautiful in design and I would use the old expression "eye candy" because it looks 'that' good! Why it's referred to as "Black Flag" escapes me but the stars and stripes design are on both sides of the helmet and for looks and various listed extras like adjustable [off, half, full] triple venting [as experienced riders already know, there are times where venting may 'not' be desired], face-shield options, etc., etc., , hey, I'd give it an overall A+ !
Now for the other shoe: I had to return it the same day it arrived but 'only' because I made the error of using my old helmet size as the guide and forgetting that each manufacturer can have different standards as to correct sizing. While it's generally accepted that motorcycle helmets should be a "snug" fit, there is a distinct difference between a "snug" fit and a fit that is simply too tight to the point of the helmet being uncomfortable! If you have the feeling that 'after' removing the helmet, someone is still gripping your head with their palms and squeezing it for some time 'after' the helmet is taken off, it's probably way too tight for your head! Further, I don't have to tell riders who must wear prescription eyeglasses or, indeed, even if you're fortunate enough to have 20-20 vision and don't require eyeglasses, many riders I know like to use non prescription sunglasses or those equally popular yellow-tinted "light enhancing" glasses, but, and this hardly any revelation, with 'any' type of glasses, prescription lenses or otherwise, if the helmet goes beyond "snug" and is simply too tight, getting those glasses in there can be an additional problem [not to mention literally bending the bows of the glasses] and which only adds to the overall discomfort of an already too tight helmet. Yeah, I know, you can't try on a helmet when it's purchased from the internet but 'do' take a look on how the manufacturer does its helmet size ratings and even if your previous helmet, albeit by another manufacturer, was, for example, a "Large", it does 'not' follow that a "Large", at least in 'this' particular helmet, would be the automatic ideal. In my case, my normal hat size is 7 1/2 and 'generally' that would have translated into a "Large" size [as my old helmet was] but these helmets tend to be too tight for a 7 1/2 hat size [which is at the very end of the "Large" sizing scale] and thus I returned the helmet for an 'Extra Large' size [ironically, the Extra Large helmet is $4.00 cheaper than the "Large" size!] because the "Large" was entirely too tight on my head and hence uncomfortable to wear and I had to literally jam my prescription sunglasses in there so I knew at once that the next size up was the only way to go. Of note, on this item, Amazon only issues a refund versus any exchange of helmets but you can download an Amazon issued UPS free return paper, print it out and affix the label to the package and send it back at no cost and then Amazon will issue you a refund to your card [or whatever you used to originally pay for the helmet] when they receive the return. Then you simply re-order the helmet in the correct size you need. I did just that and the very next day, Amazon advised that the new helmet order was on its way! It is shipped UPS and shipping is quick. There are also face-shield options [it comes with a 'clear' face shield] but you can separately order a 'smoke' face-shield or a 'mirror' face-shield. Read the many features of this helmet! Well worth the cost and great "eye candy" looks! Just be alert on the correct sizing! Doc Tony UPDATE! The new correctly sized helmet arrived and was perfect! It's really an eye-candy knock out! BUT, I say BUT, the advertised and separately ordered [smoke or mirror tinted] item face-shield does NOT fit this helmet. I ordered [separately] the 'smoke' face shield that allegedly fits this helmet and is mentioned in the write-up as an extra cost and separately purchased accessory item but it does 'not' fit this helmet and so I returned it. The helmet itself and the 'clear' face-shield that comes with it, as I stated, is perfect! Doc Tony

The first thing I noticed about this helmet was its cheap construction. The plastic shell feels flimsy and plastic trim pieces feel like they could very easily be ripped off. The construction is not solid enough to inspire much confidence in safety. Even for just $80, I feel like I've been ripped off.
