5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 80's techno-pop circa 2005! (and La Fuerza that expanded my musical world!)
If you want the quick synopsis, skip to the end of this review. Otherwise, here's the LONG story! 2.0 out of 5 stars I want Fey back
It's very disapponting that two years after her masterpiece "Vertigo", Fey comes back with an album that has NO original material. The 12 songs that come here are all covers of the spanish band Mecano. I understand she feels inspired by them or whatever, but she should stay doing what she is great at: original techno music. It would have been ok if this CD had one or...

If you want the quick synopsis, skip to the end of this review. Otherwise, here's the LONG story! One day, in March 2005, I hit the wrong number on my stereo remote and instead of winding up on the "oldies" channel, I landed on the Latin Pop channel where I was mesmerized by La Fuerza Del Destino. Of course, I had NO IDEA who this Fey woman was, being as I didn't speak Spanish! I HAD been a Shakira fan since Laundry Service, even her Spanish albums, but I'd never looked any deeper into Latin music. At any rate, I really wanted to hear the song again SO I started listening to the Latin Pop channel just to hear Fey every 4 hours 45 minutes! Of course, in the meantime, I exposed myself to LOTS of other Latin musicians and music and REALLY ENJOYED IT. Not the depressing, angst filled stuff being cranked out lately by English speaking musicians! THAT'S why I'd been splitting time between 1955-70 Pop and the 80's music of my college days.

Back to the point--I took a chance and bought La Fuerza Del Destino from Amazon and WOW! FANTASTIC! From start to finish I just loved it! Of course, I couldn't UNDERSTAND anything, SO I decided to teach myself to understand Spanish. Living in the boonies near the Canadian border, there isn't anybody around who speaks Spanish (eh?) so that's why I had to teach MYSELF! I'm pleased to report success. I can now read and understand Spanish fairly well. Making up my OWN sentences is still a bit S L O W and pathetic, but I can UNDERSTAND lyrics and Spanish language movies (although I have to cheat with closed captioning at times when they TALK TOO FAST!). But I digress!

Since then, I've bought most of FEY'S other albums (and numerous other Latin albums!) from Amazon.com and enjoyed them ALL! Today, I can look back and say that La Fuerza Del Destino is DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for my discovering a WHOLE NEW WORLD of music that I never knew existed AND for my learning a whole new language!! So thanks, FEY! You expanded my musical world and even made me want to move SOUTH OF THE BORDER--although it might be that I'm just getting tired of shoveling all the SNOW we get up here in the north!

NOW TO SUMMARIZE: I think that La Fuerza Del Destino is AWESOME. 12 GREAT TRACKS, not a lame one amongst them! Having never heard Mecano's versions (or of Mecano for that matter!) I judged this album as "new" material and not as "remakes". Happy, FUN dance pop with a techno-flair! La Fuerza, Barco A Venus & Busca Algo Barato are my favorite tracks. The whole album reminds me of the great American/English techno-pop from the 1980's. Nothing cutting edge or quirky (ala Shakira), but VERY WELL PERFORMED and WELL PRODUCED. Cantando de buena calidad de una MUY HERMOSA mujer! I'll be back for more FEY when her new album comes out! FIVE STARS (y muchas gracias, Fey!) for LA FUERZA DEL DESTINO!!

Fey is a girl that has a very pretty voice, for my any song that sings me it finds magic because has a style and a form that alone she possesses, the third sail the ballad Me Cuesta Tanto Olvidarte it is a clear example, also to each song it put a touch very to the fey, which makes the Cd A lot but Amusing.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Go Girl!!!!!, December 30, 2005
This review is from: Fuerza Del Destino (Audio CD)
This is my 3rd cd from Fey. I own her 2nd and 3rd cd also. I wanted this cd because their was a couple songs I heard on my latin music channel. And I loved those songs. I heard that these are not new songs. That they are songs from a group which I never bought any of their cds. Mecano. But I think they are all great. Wonderful cd Fey. Thank You.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vacation Pool Classic, May 22, 2005
This review is from: Fuerza Del Destino (Audio CD)
During our stay in Cancun, the pool bar played this CD every day. I truly looked forward to it coming on at various times of the day and did my water aerobics to some of the songs. My favorite is "Barco a Venus" -- I have come to really love Fey's voice and Mecano's sound. One of the first things I did after arriving home was to order the CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars a questionable tribute, but still something worthwhile, April 15, 2005

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Fuerza Del Destino (Audio CD)
Somehow, this release bypassed me. I didn't even know it existed until very recently, when I heard the title track on the radio. Like others who wrote reviews, I question this tribute album at this stage of Fey's career. Monica Naranjo's decline coincided with her tribute album, Minaje, to the Italian singer Mina. She never really reprised the success from her first two albums. I think that Fey is a different story, in that she kind of sabotaged herself. Her first album was a cutesy-pie affair, that nonetheless generated a killer #1 hit, Media Naranja. Her next release, Tierna La Noche, was nothing short of pure gold, the gold standard for Spanish-language pop, in my opinion. Unfortunately, El Color De Los Suenos was a rather-weak follow up, which put a damper on her success. Then, there were the rabid accusations about her lying about her age. Like some other fans, I did like Vertigo, at least the first seven or so tracks. But, I think Fey wanted to emulate Madonna's Ray of Light, and she didn't quite succeed.

So, rather than forge ahead with a more techno-heavy sound, we get this muddled tribute to Mecano. For me personally, this is just fine; I am not too familiar with Mecano's music, not really knowing where to begin, as far as which album to buy. But, obviously, they were very talented, as shown by Sarah Brightman's own covers of some of their songs, scattered among her albums.

This album is one of those that, if reprogrammed correctly, makes an enjoyable album, but is not enjoyable from start to end. A couple of the tracks are sing-songy; granted, Fey isn't the best vocalist by anyone's standard, but she could have picked a few more songs with verve, like the title track. Speaking of the title track, it has a more techo-heavy sound, and propulsion, that is missing in the rest of the album. Carlos Jean does create some good soundscapes, but Fey is best enjoyed when the dance-techno sound is kicked up a notch.

To conclude, this is a kind of cheater album, by an artist whose glory days are kind of over. It's up to Fey to wow us with another album of original songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad At All, September 12, 2005

This is actually a pretty good effort by Fey. She did get nominated for the best Pop Vacal Album for a latin Grammy this year. The cd actually is pretty true to the original recording by Mecano. There is not too much change but still I feel that it is a good cd. The only songs that are "dancy" are Me Cole En Una Fiesta and Ay Que Pesado. These two tracks are probably the most "Fey" songs. As we all know she is not a teenager any more and she has to grow up so we see a more mature side of her. But the little electronic changes and her raspy voice add a twist to the songs that are pleasent. If you LOVE Mecano you might be a little bias towards this album since Ana Torroja has a higher pitched voice than Fey. Overall give it a chance, it is a good cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!, April 8, 2005
This review is from: Fuerza Del Destino (Audio CD)
I love this album! It was about time that Fey released an amazing album. From "Venus en un Barco" to the re-make of "Me Cuesta Tanto Olvidarte" this is an amzaing album. It flies through techo to ballads to just plain ol' good music you can chill to. I highly recommend this CD, and any Latin music junkie wil agree that this is a great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente Disco, February 10, 2005
This review is from: Fuerza Del Destino (Audio CD)
