Biography

The Fugees were a reggae and soul influenced hip-hop group that rose to prominence in the mid-90s when their second album, The Score, became a worldwide hit. Comprising Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, they formed in New Jersey in 1994 and released debut album Blunted On Reality that same year. It didn't go down very well with critics or the public, with only "Nappy Heads" being a very… Read more in Amazon's Fugees Store

Editorial Reviews

The Fugees (pronounced /?fu?d?i?z/) were an American hip hop group who rose to fame in the mid-1990s. Their repertoire included elements of Hip hop, soul and Caribbean music, particularly reggae. The members of the group are rapper/singer/producer Wyclef Jean, rapper/singer/producer Lauryn Hill, and rapper Pras Michel. Deriving their name from the term refugee, Jean and Pras are Haitian American, while Hill is American. The group recorded two albums-one of which, The Score (1996), was a multi-platinum and Grammy-winning success-before disbanding in 1997. Hill and Jean each went on to successful solo recording careers; Michel focused on soundtrack recordings and acting, though he found commercial success with his song "Ghetto Supastar". In 2007, MTV ranked them the 9th greatest Hip-hop group of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Fugees you can find, May 15, 2001
This review is from: Fugees (Refugee Camp) Bootleg Version (Audio CD)
Ignore any bad publicity this CD or the group has gotten. This is the very best CD the Fugees have ever offered. The first Vocab remix makes the original song look like a spastic on a ferris wheel. This album is the bomb.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some great bonus material., August 18, 2005
This review is from: Fugees (Refugee Camp) Bootleg Version (Audio CD)
I saw this in the store the other day and had to buy it.

The Clark Kent Remix of "Ready Or Not" is arguably the best Fugees remix ever. It includes some new rhymes from everybody, and beautiful harmonies from Lauryn Hill. The unreleased song, "Don't Cry, Dry Your Eyes", is very good with some of the best rhymes. The "No Woman, No Cry" Remix, featuring Steve Marley is great, too.

Everything else on this EP is great, too. Except for the really lame Mad Spider Mix of "Nappy Heads."

5.0 out of 5 stars Bootleg versions like no other, July 6, 2000

This review is from: Fugees (Refugee Camp) Bootleg Version (Audio CD)
This cd gets 3 stars from me alone just because it's the fugees. When this cd came out back in 96 I was wondering if these remixes could really be that good that they had to drop a cd just to put them out. After listening to the first track my question was answered. Songs I liked were "nappy heads" , "ready or not", "No woman no cry", and "Vocab"(refugee hip hop remix). Songs I didn't like was "don't cry dry your eyes" and "Vocab(salaam remix)". Just listen to the verse that lauryn hill spits on the first track and you will understand why I think that song is good. I don't know if the fugees will ever come back together but this will keep us and remind us what they had until that time. This is One bootleg cd u won't regret buying.
