The Fuji 2893-G-XPC Q3 is a very good product, the gun (9600 G XPC, gravity feed with pressure assist) controls are easy to master and the paint/finish delivery is very good. The Q3 turbine is reasonably quiet, similar to a moderately noisy vacuum cleaner. The air delivery hose is moderately stiff, but the heavy rubber cover should last a very long time. I did not get the additional whip extension hose that would be appreciated in a production setting.
The fan width control and fluid delivery controls are both very good. I suggest starting with a very small amount of fluid and a medium fan setting to get a sense of the delivery rate and fan size. Check the result on a scrap or sheet of newspaper. You can then dial up more fluid and change your fan width accordingly. (please see photo for control locations) The gun can deliver paint very quickly, not as fast as most airless sprayers, but, in my experience, much faster than conventional cup guns or standard, compressor type high pressure (25-40 psi) HVLP guns, and with much less overspray. The gravity feed reservoir is pressurized to assist fluid flow to the nozzle.
Instructions from Fuji recommend a drip rate of about 20-40 secs through the viscosity cup they provided. I shot clear waterborn polyurethane sealer and top coat(drip rate 20-25 sec) and a diluted resin stain (drip rate 30-35 sec). The thinner clear coats leveled out very well while the resin stain were good to very good. I was able to spray effectively into assembled drawers, inside and out, both vertical sides and the horizontal bottoms. The finish spray coated into the corners, although I did get a few runs in the clear coat on vertical surfaces when I applied too much material. Yes, its fairly easy but there is a learning curve !
Other notes:
+++++The fluid reservoir mounted to the side of the gun can be tilted to allow spraying up or down at high angles. The adjustable lock for the pivoting action can be hand set to a "firm grip", in other words, no tools are required to change the angle of the cup, and after several hours of use, never required readjustment.
+++++While some may find the reservoir small, about 1/2 liter, it is very easy to refill. The gun has a built-in stand and is very stable when the hose is removed. The funnel shape drains almost all the product from the cup.
+++++The gun can be converted to a pressure pot system. However, due to the side entry of product to the gun, the hose might be awkwardly positioned and a right angle adapter would be needed.
+++++The air filter (foam block) is accessable under the tubine unit and is a press fit into the housing (no dissassembly required). Fujispray recommends that the tubine NOT be raised above the ground to avoid kinking the hose and restricting air flow. I'd say put the turbine on a tarp or clean surface and not suck air in off the ground or a dirty floor, but thats just me.
